Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy, rusty, dark amber color. Nice foamy thick head. Aroma of bread, banana, hay and some cirtus rind. Flavor is sweet and bready, with a nice mild fruit note, and a finish that is almost spice-like.

Bottle kicks up a decent head with fair longevity. Banana/clove aroma and taste are pretty strong and linger on the back of the tongue. I was looking for Oktoberfest brews, but found that this seems to fit the late summer/early fall niche nicely.

Cloudy gold apple cider color with a short lasting head. Sweet, fresh-baked bread aromas. Chewy, with a grainy texture and flavors of butterscotch and juicy malts. Slightly sweet, but balanced between fruitiness and malts.

<!-- p -->My neighbor opens a pack of stale banana bubblegum, then cleans the gum from the soles of his shoes. Only hexane gets that out. I froth up the natural shaving cream and spread it over my henna and amber beard. After, a shot of bananas ninety-nine on the side with a glass of sherry on the rocks. It’s ethereal, as I heard wind pipes curve with faint sound. A trained monkey peels a banana and hands it to me. Quite ripe. I follow this with an unripe green apple. The stem smacks long. <!-- p -->This beer seems a little pale for the style, but this is probably an ancestor to all the styles I’ve had, so this may not matter. I’ve nary had a beer where the fruit flavors were so articulate and on point. The banana and apples are acute and dominating. The mouthfeel is vacuous and escalating. A real pleasant feeling. A generally delectable ride through dunkelweizen land.

Murky tan color with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma of fruit esters. Yeasty wheat flavors with some spicyness. Finishes rather bland. A good and drinkable Weizen for a picnic.

Cloudy Orangey brown, with a sloppy, thin head. Spicy, bready, toasty aroma, perhaps with a hint of sourdough. Flavor is surprisingly fruity - raisin & prunes, mostly - with a solid pumpernickel and peppery finish.

Out of the bottle and into a weizen glass. The head was a light tan that had moderate dissipation and light brown watery appearance , aroma was of banana and clove, the palate was watery with a light grape in the after taste. I’m being very generous in my rating. If I were given the chioce of drinking this for free or purchasing a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel, I would choose the latter. But that’s just me, I could be wrong.

Good roasted malt scent, bready. Light citrus, dough, banana and clove aroma. Cloudy amber with frothy brown head. Sweet flavor with slight hints of a sour and bitter finish and some fruity notes. Palate is good and chewy. Very good overall.
