Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Big hiss as the cap comes off, mostly hazy orange-to-brown with some yeasties and little beads that form a succinct icy layer for the head. Big cloves waft on first whiff, followed by chocolate powdered bananas, sweet whole kernel corn, pepper and nutmeg. Spicing is hot with the aroma. Flavor makes good on the aroma predictors. Smooth banana crème and caramel chews provide the first layer. Cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and cloves spice up the next. Slight hint of brown sugared rum raisins and golden delicious apples. Sweet and graceful on the palate, departing with much of the same flavoring profile as it rode in on. I feared the effervescence when the cap hissed so powerfully, but each sip was met with a well-toned body. Finish is akin to ginger snap cookies. Pretty damn good.

Pours a nice cloudy brown, almost apple cider like, with lots of bubbles and tan head. Nose is yeast and spice. Taste is initially dough and yeast, but then the spice and and light sourness come into the mix. Mellow banana and clove also. Thin mouthfeel, but does not detract from the beer at all. Could drink this all night long. These guys dont make a bad beer.

Nose is very spicy, with strong notes of banana and cloves. The mouthfel is thin, but the fruity flavors of the beer turn this to an advantage, and it seems to work well. Banana dominates the taste, but bread dough, apple, cloves, and roasted grains show through. Overall taste is light, with not a lot of the grain there. The finish sours, not complimenting the banana at all, but other than that it is a very good wheat.

I enjoyed this beer enormously. Signature taste with fruity components kind of vanilla flavor with the malt. Beautiful taste.

This beer tastes very strongly like bananas. If you enjoy bananas you will enjoy this beer. Long lasting head, nice amber color. An enjoyable beer, recommended.

Bottle. Hazy iced tea brown with a large lasting head. Quite attractive. Dusty citric nose that is quite earthy and malty. Taste-apple, clove, candied banana, doughy, yeasty, juicy fruit gum, fruity esters, cantaloupe, and wheat. Takes a few sips for the full flavors to develop and open up, but it is quite enjoyable. The wheat doesn’t overrun the flavor profile-it accompanies the candy notes. This would be just excellent with a huge plate of sausages and kraut.

Not bad, it doesn’t stand out to me as more than a powerful wheat beer. It does have some very fine qualities, the spice in the nose is heavy, there is great cloudy amber/yellow colour, and it has good depth, but I wasn’t really drawn back to it. It has an interesting, almost sour, flavour to it.
