Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Aroma of banana, citrus, yeast and somewhat spicyness. Cloudy, orange coloured with a lasting, creamy, off-white head. Taste is sweet with banana, citrus, yeast and some earthy/bread like background. Quite nice, well bodied and refreshing weizen.

Bottle. Pours with a large, creamy barely off-white head with a hazed brown body. Good lace and retention. Aroma is full of banana esters, clove phenols with the yeast, a bit of chocolate, caramel and dark fruits. Taste is watery with chocolate, caramel and clove. Lively to fizzy mouthfeel.

Hazy orange color with a thick light beige head. Some carbonation. This is darker in color than any German Wheat I have had so far. Fruity aroma. I was kind of unimpressed with the taste. There was a definite apple cider feel to it, but it really lacked follow-through. Probably the coolest bottle cap I have seen. What is in the trees, matryoshka dolls?

500ml bottle. Hazy brown body under a filmy, white layer. Aroma of cloves and ripe banana. Lots of wheat in flavour accompanied by cloves, caramel sweetness and malty richness. Notes of yeast and tart fruits in the finish (enjoyed in the sunny Biergarten of Hotel Hachinger-Hof, Oberhaching 17.06.2007).

A dark and solid wheat dunkel from Ayinger. I’d call this beer middle-of-the-pack for a German dark wheat. I found the entire Ayinger line-up at a beer store in Brooklyn and am a very happy man.

Bottle. Cloudy, ruddy brown with a dense, thick offwhite head. Good rich, spicy banana aroma and flavours. Hints of apples as well. A very solid and complex dunkelweizen.
