Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Caramel red orange with a smooth off white foam. Big banana, bubblegum aroma, hidden cloves, sweet caramels, butterscotch. Taste is lots of caramel, bananas, fruit, light finishing grassy, spicy note.

Bottle at the Oak Barrel, Helsinki Airport. Very pale, almost lime green colour, rather artificial looking; cloudy of course, with a thick white head and fine carbonation; banana aroma, and lots more banana when tasted with soem wheat and vanilla; dry finish with some bitterness.

6/25/03, draft, Munich. Tried this dunkel-weiss at the Ayinger brewery restaurant and biergarten on a beautiful warm June evening. I can see why the Germans love their biergartens so much in the summer months! A golden brown, unfiltered, hazy dark wheat beer with a large white head. Good lacing. Fruity, spicy, citrus aroma with cloves and roasted malts. Fruity, wheaty, sweet-n-sour hefeweizen flavor with roasted malt depth. Full bodied, easy carbonation and very drinkable.

Great big light tan head which lasts for a while. Decent carbonation. Grassy/compost aroma with a touch of spices. Color is a slightly cloudy medium orange. Flavor is a little vinegary (sp). Crisp and fruity but with a sour vinegar kick. Slight bitterness in the finish and pretty clean and smooth. A decent wheat with a kick.

Cloudy amber-orangeish hue, with a white head, yeasty, fruity notes of apples, plums, raisins, even bananas, with some spicy cinnamon and clove accent, with a good aroma of caramelized and toasted malts, follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a spritzy yeasty spiciness character, with some clovey and cinnamon notes, toasty malt, sweet wheaten accent, with a nice pleasant dose of apple, orange, raisin and banana fruitiness, leading towards a fruity, wheaty malty finish.

Pours a cloudy dark brown into a Weizen glass. Significant head recedes and leaves no lacing. Banana and clove notes. Apple and banana with a lasting clove finish.

Bottle. Hazy iced tea brown with a large lasting head. Quite attractive. Dusty citric nose that is quite earthy and malty. Taste-apple, clove, candied banana, doughy, yeasty, juicy fruit gum, fruity esters, cantaloupe, and wheat. Takes a few sips for the full flavors to develop and open up, but it is quite enjoyable. The wheat doesn’t overrun the flavor profile-it accompanies the candy notes. This would be just excellent with a huge plate of sausages and kraut.

Hazy amber with a foamy white head. Aroma was wheat, spice, fruit. Fairly good body with light carbonation. Flavor was very wheaty, yeasty, and spicy.
