Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Combined rating from bottles and Munich brewhouse - Pours dark caramel (light brownish red) with a thicky foamy off-white head. Aroma of cloves, toffee, apples, banana, lightly toasted bready malts, and delicate spices. Taste is all about the spicy yeast. Phenolic notes of cloves, pear, and apple. Sweet chewy initial taste becomes more dry and influenced by the wheat malt. There’s plenty of toffee, caramel sweetness, but it’s mostly hidden behind the immense yeastiness. Mouthfeel is soft and supple with lush carbonation. Complex and easy to drink. Certainly my favorite dunkelweizen, I just wish Ayinger would start dating their bottles.

A bready, drinkable Dunkelweizen. Some banana flavor, abit of caramel, anis, a nice drinker for a weizenbier, good flavor!

Bottle. Pour is a dingy and light brown color with a massive, fluffy head. Aromas are heavy on the cloves and spicey yeast notes with some banana mixed in and a little sawdust. Mouthfeel is kind of grainy/dusty which compliments the flavors of cloves and such. Still, it is a very light dunkel. Just a touch of a sourness to it helps to keep things interesting, but I’m not sold on this one.

typical aroma with yeast and hay. the flavor is richer and much maltier than a hefe. tastes like a highly carbonated nutty banana bread with a little spicy kick at the end. very well balanced and refreshing

(Bottle on 2009-06-19) Dark orange and cloudy. Quite large, white and long lasting head. Fruitiness, malts and lightly banana in aroma. Medium bodied palate with high carbonation. Malts, fruitiness, banana, grass and bitterness in taste. Fruity and lightly bitter aftertaste.

Bottle from Kegs & Barrel in McKinney, TX. Pours a dark cloudy gold. Aroma has light notes of bannana. Flavor has some bannana notes and a nice wheat malt backbone, lightly sweet, seems to have a very light pepper spice as well. Mouthfeel is light and soft with high carbonation. Over all this is a nice and balanced beer.

Bottle from a great trade with Koelschtrinker (thanks!). Cloudy light-brown color with a a stable beige head. Aroma of wheat, banana, malt, bread and some caramel. Flavor is sweet with wheat, yeast, fruitiness (banana and some citrus), some toasted malt, and some later acidity. Medium-bodied and maybe a bit too much carbonation going on. Nice stuff.

Bottle 0,5l. Brown coloured. Unclear. Citric flavor. A bit too carbonated. An ordinary wheat beer.
