Full pour in wheat beer glass yeilds a darker toned center column with a hazy honey tan encompassing it. It slowly blends together for a caramel haze with a tight white head. Nose of creals and wheat malt. Soft rounded body has tones of pear and scaramel apples. wheat /yeast tang offset the subtle sweetness. Clove and citrussy finish spark the tastebuds for more. jhumphries69 (729), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Pours cloudy, deep, brownish gold with a thick off-white head (that dissipates to a ~1/4 inch foam that lasts the duration of the drink). The aroma is very heavy with wheat. There is also some bready yeast, some sweet malts and honey, and traces of lemon or sweet orange zest and banana. The beer is yeasty and wheaty and very zippy with carbonation at first. It then reveals some fruit and malts - while maintaining a lot of bubbly zing tickling the surface of the tongue. The finish has more soft fruit, lots of wheat, some yeast, and some subtle hop bitterness. The finish is somewhat dry, wheaty, and yeasty, with a delicate touch of bitterness. Overall, the flavor seems disappointingly watery and has a peculiar funk that is hard to describe - it seems a clash between the darker, chewier flavors from roasted grains combined with the fruity weizen yeast flavors. It is interesting and not bad - but a letdown compared to other delicious beers from Ayinger that I’ve had... lamas (724), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2005 500mL bottle. Label is slightly different than that in the picture. A murky iced-tea brown pour with a thick, fizzy tan head. Wheaty, lemony/banana, yeasty aroma with plenty of sweet malts underneath. Carbonation is very high and definitely detracts from the taste. It’s still very apparent that this is a delightfully well-balanced beer. Ample sweet, bready malts compliment the wheat and yeasty tanginess throughout. There are hints of apple pie filling in the aroma and taste. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA

Very good head retention. Aroma had cloves, malts, banana, wheat and some caramel. Taste had roasted banana, wheat citrus and tea. Very strong tart banana aftertaste. Nice Dunkelweizen. liinis (721), Helsinki, Finland

This beer has the perfect aroma for a dunkel weisse, absolutely perfect. Pours a wonderfully vibrant shade of reddish brown. Good sized head that grows with consecutive pours, very nice. Great mouthfeel as well, which kind of surprised me considering Ayinger's other selections which seem to have a bit of a bite to them. Great beer. fraternie (710), Chicago, Illinois, USA
