Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

[bottle] Pours a nice, dark brown color. Aroma is malty- with yeast and banana notes. Super drinkable, with a great balance of malts and yeast presence.

(bottle) Pours hazy light brown with a voluminous white head. Aroma of toasted grain, light bubblegum, wheat, and banana. Some bread appears as well. This aroma tends to veer more towards weizenbock territory, although it is far less potent but still nice to smell. Taste is lightly roasted initially, with a nice mid-palate of caramel and plum that yields to a crisp wheat finish that erases all of the sweetness which was originally present. The mouthfeel is medium. This is a very solid beer that doesn’t overly impress, yet doesn’t disappoint either.

17 oz bottle: Aroma is a bready, yeast, roasted caramel malt, light fruits, and spices. Appearance is a murky brown with a thin off white head that diminishes into a soapy film at the top of the glass. Taste is rather effervescent with a bubbly apple and and rather mild caramel malt taste with the yeast present in the the taste as well. Other flavors are clove, some banana, and bread. Overall, It’s a very drinkable Dunkelweizen. Wheat and with a nice wiezen texture.

Malty, citrusy, yeasty aroma. Strong wheat flavor. Not very dark for what the bottle reads as a "dark wheat beer". I might just drink this one in the summer instead of the winter.

Foggy yellow/orange appearance with a thick head, a bit dim for wheat. Citrus/apple aroma. Pretty average overall.

Opaque golden-brown, nice foamy white head lasting. Banana, pepper, and wheat rule the sweet nose. Similar flavor, not quite as potent. Palate is a little thin and very short. Too sweet and simple, but this is still somewhat enjoyable.

Dark cloudy apple cider color with a fruity scent. The fruit continues into the taste with a crisp wheat flavor which finishes with no bitterness. Seems like a fairly hardy beer, which I like. Overall, a very good wheat that I would get again.
