Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

bottle at vandalia lounge in charleston, wv. poured a dark hazy yellow with a thick, dense white head. great wheat smell laced fairly heavily with banana esters. taste was more wheat, with even more banana, a hint of some citrus, maybe even a bit of floral hops, with a happy malt base. medium-bodied with that bit of carbonation that fits a weiss beer. finished with just a tiny hint of sweetness, drying out as time went on. a very tasty summer beer.

500 mL bottle, poured into a weizen glass. Orangish amber color, nice haze, thick beige head. Aroma is standard banana and clove, with a hint of lemon and caramel. Flavor is bananas, vanilla, egg nog, and clove. Similar notes to most other dunkelweizens but it is not fitting together quite right for me compared to the elite versions of the style. Good creamy mouthfeel and good drinkability.

Bread, caramel and pit fruit in the nose to the nth power. Golden amber hue with a creamy carbonated head that was gone far too soon. Caramel, molasses, ripe banana and apple with a light touch of cloves in the finish. Creamy and gently lively finished. A well crafted beer, hard to beat for the price.
