Commercial Description:
The recipe for this beer goes right back to monastery traditions. The complex triple mash process using four types of malt gives the dark “doppelbock” its characteristic malty dominance and its close to black color. The storage time of 16 weeks produces a pronounced, well-rounded taste. Despite a high original wort content, the sweetness that is frequently present with doppelbocks can scarcely be detected. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. Between November and January you can allow yourself to be completely won over by the excellent quality of the Winterbock.

0.5 L botttle from Systembolaget, Charlottenberg as Ayinger Winter Bock. Fully diminishing mediumsized, dense, light brown head. Brilliant, dark ruby body. Strong, nutty, almost cheesy malt aroma. Dark caramelly, with a whiff of tinned dark fruits. Full malt body. Sweet. A refined malty and fruity sweetness. Toasted, light bready, with suggestions of mild spices and dried, dark fruits. Some faint spicy hops underneth. Thick, yet soft mouthfeel. Big, lingering malt finish, with fruity and roasted notes. A malt bomb, very nice indeed.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours a dark brown color with a nice beigewhite head. Aroma is malty with dark bread, light chocolate, toffee and minerals. Flavour is very malty, with lotes of dark bread, toffee sweetness, and some light chocolate. Fullbodied, rather sticky, with a lively carbonation which tickles the tounge at first, than becomes softer and very nice. A very tasty bock.

Bottles as Winter Bock. Fairly standard bock, nice edge of sour cherries, but nothing adventourous here. A bit short finish. By no means bad. But it doesn’t tingle down your spine, either!

It poured a very dark liquid with some red notes, medium light brown foam that left some lacing. It had a malty smell with some caramell. The mouthfeel was smooth and it had a medium body and low bitterness. It tasted of chocolate, malt, caramell and also sweet with some sugar. This was pretty nice, I can definitely imagine drinking several of theese with my christmas dinner.

Dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma is invitingly nutty with notes of minerals, dark bread and toffe. Mouthfeel is fairly big and very smooth. Flavour is big, very fat maly and rich with notes of dark fruit, dark bread, refreshing minerals and nuts. Finishes slightly grassy and dry with a lingering malty breadyness. Warming and exellent.

Bottled. Pours out in a dark brown colour with a rich creamy pale brown head. Solid malt aroma of dark chocolate, dark bread, fudge, nuts and crackers. Medium-bodied with rock solid malty flavours of dark chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts and crackers. Long aftertaste of dark chocolate, grass, nuts and fudge.
