Commercial Description:
The recipe for this beer goes right back to monastery traditions. The complex triple mash process using four types of malt gives the dark “doppelbock” its characteristic malty dominance and its close to black color. The storage time of 16 weeks produces a pronounced, well-rounded taste. Despite a high original wort content, the sweetness that is frequently present with doppelbocks can scarcely be detected. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. Between November and January you can allow yourself to be completely won over by the excellent quality of the Winterbock.

Bottle in Strasbourg, 2006. Pours an almost opaque black with a tall tan head. Very tasty-looking. Aroma of roasted malt. Smells rather burnt, cookieish and thick. A bit sweet, with caramel and a touch of chocolate. Very roasted flavor comes with a rush of sweetness, which then gives way to a strong dryness coming from roasted malt and good hopping. Medium to heavy in the mouth, rather full of body. The balance is superb. The finish is dry and bitter, roasted, and lasts a long time. A great beer, much less sweet overall than other dark bocks I have had from the area.

Roasted malt and fruits in the nose, sweet caramelly taste with some fruit in taste, hops in the finnish along with a hint of metal. I like it but it could have more malt in the taste, had this alongside with koff porter straight from tap and this lost by a mile in that comparison.

Dark ruby brown, nice and big tanned head. Nose is malty, roasted and a bit syrupy. Flavor has a bit buttery maltiness and syrupy sweetness. Finishess drier with liquorice and noticeable alcohol. Medium to full bodied with round carbonation, sticky palate.

Bottle from Tbone_, thanks Timo! Deep dark brown color. Malt and chocolate cake in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with raisin, chocolate and even hints of porto. Caramel. A rich, well balanced and tasty beer.

Winter-Bock is almost black beer with small beige head. Aroma is sweet, slightly roasted and there is found some insipid aroma. Luckily flavour is not so sweet than aroma predict because flavour is roasted and dry. Full bodied with enought carbonation makes this nice to drink. Winter-Bock is high-quality beer but somehow boring so there are not top-points.

Deep, clear brown with garnet highlights. Chocolate, caramel, light coffee, light smoke, walnuts all permeate the aroma. Fairly sweet, toasted with a light nutty tang--almost cola like at times. Medium bodied, creamy texture with tight, lively carbonation. Really clean, deep and interesting. Shall definitely be revisted this holiday season! 50cl bottle.
