Commercial Description:
The recipe for this beer goes right back to monastery traditions. The complex triple mash process using four types of malt gives the dark “doppelbock” its characteristic malty dominance and its close to black color. The storage time of 16 weeks produces a pronounced, well-rounded taste. Despite a high original wort content, the sweetness that is frequently present with doppelbocks can scarcely be detected. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. Between November and January you can allow yourself to be completely won over by the excellent quality of the Winterbock.

From tap (Bruuveri, Helsinki). Roastiness, liqourice, chocolate, coffee. Very dense and pleasant. No bitterness. Alc doesn’t push thru. Very very nice bock.

Draught at Panimoravintola Bruuveri, Helsinki (as Ayinger Winter-Bock). Very dark red-brown in colour with a creamy, fluffy pale beige head. Lots of caramel in the aroma. Some doughy malt and hints of liquorice. On the palate, it has fruit cake and treacle malt, tempered by a subtle tart bite The mouthfeel is smooth and clean but not too sweet. Not a lot of body for the style. Perhaps a bit light, but quite tasty.

courtesy of oh6gdx - clear dark reddish-brown colour, elusive foam; aroma of caramel, wort and candi sugar; sweet and quite full-bodied, no real bitterness and a moderate caramelish finish - looks like a "caramalz"; a deception

Rerate: bottle 500ml (Alko) (6-4+-7-4-14=3.5)
BLack, brief tan head. Plummy aroma. Smooth palate, gentle tingle of carbonation. Sticky roasty malty retronasals, a touch marmitey. Decent full roasty body. slightly spikey thin hopping. Good but not as good as the best keg. Rerate of Keg (One Pint, Helsinki)
Black, thick head. Sour aroma. Feels great in the mouth. Rich, dark, and sweet. Excellent beer.
Rerate of 500ml bottle (5-5-6-2-12=3.0)
No appreciable aroma at first, but a smooth but somewhat nondescript aroma does come through eventually. Taste ranges from creamy to bitter to metallic. The keg version is better than this sample.

Bottle. Clear medium red / brown color with a average frothy fair lacing off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, burnt, chocolate dark, coffe strong, light yeasty, licorice. Flavor is moderato to heavy sweet and mderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. Very nice ;o))

0.5 l bottle. Dark reddish brown color with creamy tan head. Malty and sweetish aroma with licorice and toffee. Soft roasted flavor with distinctive licorice character and some toffee. Finishes malty with licorice and tar. Soft palate. Very malty and very clean.
