Bottle bought in Berlin) Pours a beautiful dark brown with a nice velvet head. The velvet continues in the palate - this is the softest beer I think I’ve ever drunk. Chocolate and roasted malt in the taste and a pleasant malty aroma. Very good beer. Tranquillity (1167), Espoo, Finland

(here’s the old rating: 6, 3, 8, 4, 7 )The aroma is malty, a bit roasted and very metallic... Full flavour. Strong dark roasted hops in the finish. Hard to analyze. Foamy and nice though. Big disappointment. I have to try the draught next. NEW RATING: Dark brown /mahogany body, thick beige head. Musty aroma of mämmi, tar, liqurice. Full palate with a taste of tar, liqurice, some chocolate. Simply fantastic. KyotoLefty (1420), Kyoto, Japan

Pours an almost opaque black with a tall tan head. Very tasty-looking. Aroma of roasted malt. Smells rather burnt, cookieish and thick. A bit sweet, with caramel and a touch of chocolate.
Very roasted flavor comes with a rush of sweetness, which then gives way to a strong dryness coming from roasted malt and good hopping.
Medium to heavy in the mouth, rather full of body. The balance is superb. The finish is dry and bitter, roasted, and lasts a long time. A great beer, much less sweet overall than other dark bocks I have had from the area.

Rye-puddingy-malty toffee-caramely aroma with bitter hops and pear hints. Very roasty, very malty, well-balanced flavor with coffee, licorice, and quite strong hops. Hides the ABV with no problems. Bitter, chalky finish. Quite full-bodied, ashy, sticky-malty, but not too sugary, a bit foamy palate. An excellent, quite full-bodied and well-hopped winter brew. Not very complex, but enjoyable! Dark brown. Rich head. Chocolatey, smokey nose. Smokey in flavour at first, smooth mouthfeel, then chocolate takes over. Very good balance here. Long, wonderful caramelly finish. wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Deep, clear brown with garnet highlights. Chocolate, caramel, light coffee, light smoke, walnuts all permeate the aroma. Fairly sweet, toasted with a light nutty tang--almost cola like at times. Medium bodied, creamy texture with tight, lively carbonation. Really clean, deep and interesting. Shall definitely be revisted this holiday season! 50cl bottle.
