A Mes rate: If I hadn’t had this purchased for me and therefore not wanting to appear ungrateful, it would have remained unfinished. No different to all the other pale Ayingers I have tried. A cheap option next to Stella for the city gents who don’t know any better.

(Keg, King Arms, York, England) Average tasting lager from Samuel Smiths’ new brand name. Not as good as the D. Pils Strong Lager. Yellow colored lager pours with a thin head.

Thin, sweet and totally fogettable, some apples in there, with a shot of alcohol at the end, crappy stuff.

[Draught] Golden coloured. A nice brew with some hops and apples in the aroma. Hoppy flavour with a bitter finish. A rather well crafted lager.

The next substandard Sam Smiths product on the concluding leg of the RB London Christmas pub crawl. A Germanic name does not make a good lager, and this is certainly not a good lager. As the ABV is not given on the pump, it’s not clear how this differs in strength from the Ayingerbrau D Pils Strong Lager, but it’s marginally worse. Malty aroma, with a nasty sulphuric edge. Dry, malty flavour devoid of interest. Pretty poor. Keg at the Brewery Tap (that is, the old Courage Brewery tap, not Sam Smiths brewery tap).

Nov, 2003 Keg, Cittie of Yorke, London. Sweet, apple nose with a hint of malt. Some fizz, some dry chalkiness, with a sweetish finish. Mostly bad. [1.8]
Oct, 2005. Keg, Glasshouse Stores, Soho. Crisply but not excessively carbonated with an unexciting but inoffensive malt flavour and a faint hop presence. [2.0]

Draught, at the Cittie of Yorke, London.
Golden body with a light, very thin head. Apple aroma (SilkTork) with decent dryness and bitterness. With imagination it reminds me of Asahi Super Dry, just not as clear or crisp.

A little bit stronger than the normal lager beer, but it has a fruit aroma and a sweet flavor too, althought lower.
