larsga (2382), Oslo, Norway Oct 14, 2007 Medium shiny beige heady. Deep dark red brown body, barely translucent. Sweet caramelly aroma of toffee and nougat with a soft hoppy background. Incredibly harmonic, and very crisp and clear. Sweet and dry earthy watery taste with a roasty caramelly edge to it, very soft and delicate. Soft metallic notes. Fantastically harmonic and subtle, and very aromatic. Dry, papery caramel aftertaste with faint burnt chocolate notes. An almost incredible achievement for such a light beer. As a session beer this is fantastic. (0.5l bottle from Rewe supermarket, Leipzig.) pivnizub (4003), Porúří, Germany Oct 19, 2008 Bottle: Deep ruby amber coloured, lacy, stable fluffy tanned head; solid coffeeish and toasted-malty nose with hops underneath; medium bodied, smooth MF, solid, a bit dryish bitter-sweet flavour; lingering solid sweet and toasted finish. A very good Schwarzbier.... ČESKÉMU PIVU ZDAR! JoeinUccle (715), Brussels, Belgium Nov 2, 2007 Updated: Aug 19, 2008Re-rating after trying more... It’s growing on me. This is a light and refreshing schwarz that doesn’t overwhelm with sweetness. Pours black with ruby highlights and a big tan, foamy head. Releases some sweet, malty aroma with notes of chocolate, tootsie roll, cola, root beer, toffee. Thankfully the beer is only lightly sweet, with a light body, some caramel flavor with a burnt edge to it, and a touch of bitterness as it goes down. Faint malty-bitter aftertaste. One of the nicer schwarzbiers I’ve had, definitely quaffable.
