TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 28, 2006 Slim Pigin’s Dark Ale pours to a beautiful, deep brown color with a thick white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of good sweet and nutty malt aroma, paired with some nice citrus hop aroma, and light hints of roast. The palate is firm, with good sweet and nutty malt character, along with just a hint of mild roasted coffee, and some bitter sweet chocolate flavor as well. Slim Pigin’s finishes with more good sweet and dark malt flavors up front, then ends with a nice citrus hop tang to round out the sweet malt flavors of this beer.
This is a really well done dark ale that matched very well with a lunch of a Texas tri-tip BBQ beef sandwich on an onion roll served with sweet potato fries. Babe’s has a wonderful tequila spiked BBQ sauce(which is awesome!), and the combo of the sauce, the smoky meat, and flavorful Slim Pigin’s Dark Ale was a match made in heaven. This beer is a great beer to match with BBQ and it would work well with a number of dishes on Babe’s menu. I really enjoyed this one with BBQ, and Babe’s also brews a porter for those who want to go even darker. If you ever find yourself in Rancho Mirage, and you love beer and BBQ, Babe’s is a must visit.
