Commercial Description:
This amber colored pale ale will quench your thirst. It's smooth mild taste makes it Back Road Brewery's flagship beer. A generous dosing of fresh English hops nicely balances the beer's maltiness. A technique called dry hopping is used to add a fresh herbal like aroma. Drink and enjoy LaPorte's first hand crafted beer!!

Appearance: Pours a hazed amber body with an explosive, run-away white head. Smell: A tart, twangy aroma akin to cooked berries along with a dose of pine. Taste: A beer that begins and ends tart, with some mild malt flavors and English hops in between. Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Questionably well carbonated. Drinkability: A "flagship beer" that’s flying at half-mast.

Moderate sweet malty aroma.Light hoppy and yeast aroma. Slightly cloudy yellowish amber color with creamy ivory head. Moderate head retention Slightly acidic sour initial flavor followed by light hop bitterness in the finish. Light body with a watery mouthfeel. Hopefully an unrepresentative sample.

Pours a hazy light copper color with a white head. Aroma is light fruity, piney, and a hint of tart. Flavor is very tart, some fruit, and bitter finish.

Pours a slightly hazy golden with an airy, frothy off-white head. Aroma of some piny English hops and pale malt with some mild tartness. Body starts very effervescent with a tart lemon citrus flavor and some acidic warmth. Definitely seems infected to me, but would otherwise be a pretty standard APA.

Pours a distinct amber and heavy sediment topped by a light white head that fades instantly. The nose was lightly roasted caramel malt and just a hint of herbal hopping. The flavor, also mild, echoes the aroma...lightly roasted caramel malt and very ,mild herbal, earthy hopping. Just OK.

Bottle. Rush of slight, English hops with toffee notes and some funk. Clear orange body with some funk. Super excitable, both in the bottle and the glass, with a large soapy white head. Significantly sweeter than their other APA, with a light metallic touch. Again, some sweet hoppy funk but no real bitterness. Slight metallic burn before the end. Medium body. Eh.

Even a vigorous pour couldn’t raise much of a head over the slightly hazed amber body. It has a caramel, malty aroma with some apples and toffee. Drinking it is almost like eating a sour caramel apple with an earthy hop bitterness arriving late in the game. I would’ve thought this to be an amber ale due to the flavor and weak hopping. Why do so many "flagship beers" come across as something I’d just as soon not repeat?

On tap at the brewery tasting room. Copper to redish in color, server with not much head. On the maltier side with some subtle hop aroma and flavor. Fuller body.
