The nose reminded me of cinnimon rolls with sweet frosting, bread and cinnimon spice. Big lager beer with toffee sweetness, burnt caramel, some wood and faint smoke. Warming alcohol sensation. Nice double bock. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

I actually had it way too cold, and I finished up my lambic thus allowing it to sit 30 minutes or so. A good move on my behalf. Smell is rich and full of chocolate and caramel and some sweet malts. Taste is smooth and rich, with a nice alcohol kick but no burning. Good dopplebock actually. Thanks for this one Mike. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jul 17, 2006 12 oz. Beer is a nearly opaque, very dark brown with a small, frothy, tan, rapidly and totally diminishing head. The aroma is restrained and scrumptiously malty with moderate notes of toasted bread, lightly roasted grain, trace of caramel and chocolate; Malty with light herbal notes; Yeasty with a light note of sharp cheese, moderate note of basement; Light miscellaneous peach/apricot, wood note adds a hint of delicacy, moderate note of alcohol. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic with a long, warm, lightly bitter, moderately sweet finish. Wishing for a bit more bitterness to balance this show out. The body is medium-to-full, the texture is syrupy and the carbonation is soft. Ugh. Syrupy and soft is always hard to like together. Ernest (4515), Boulder, Colorado, USA

Ok, but syrupy sweet to the point of causing tooth pain. Very difficult to drink. porterhouse (1163), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 26, 2006 (Bottle via trade with BBB63, thanks Mike!) Poured dark mahogany with some ruby highlights. Half-inch of biege head recedes to a soft thin layer that stayed put. Aroma of brown sugar, malt, moderate alcohol and some chalkiness. No lacing. Soft mouthfeel, pretty full, a little tingly and dry. Fairly rich brown sugar/maple flavor, not too complex but good. Also a nice touch of roastiness. Finishes very lightly bitter and dry. Alcohol pretty well-hidden in taste. Good doppel, has a good quality feel to it. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2005 A spring seasonal from my hometown brewery. Purchases 2 sixer’s for 12.99 each. I decided to leave it alone for a couple of months to more conditioning
Deep brown and garnet. Very quick disapating, tan head. No visable carbonation.
Chocolate and prunes. Some spices. Some light hop aroma.
Chocolate cover toffee, or maybe caramel. Prunes or rasins. Light coffee notes. Some lingerins alcohol.
Full bodied. Rolls over the tonge nicely. Very few (if any) bubbles.
I have it stuck in my memory that this one comes in at 9%. For that big a beer, this is very drinkable. Maybe one a week.
Backroad does a good job. Everybody should visit if given the opportunity bkelley68 (467), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
