Poured a dark brown color with some deep ruby highlights and a small tan head. Aroma of clove, toffee, licorice, caramel, smoke, some chocolate, and a little alcohol. Sweet chocolate is found at the forefront of the taste, but some smokiness, fruit, and finally a prickly alcohol finish. Very enjoyable, and although the alcohol was noticeable, I didn’t think it stood out as much as others have said. Thanks for this Back Road brew BBB63!

Another winner from BBB63! Pours dark brown with a medium, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel, chocolate, some cinnamon. Tastes malty, fruity, with slight soy sauce, cognac, and scotch. Finishes firm, dense, fruity, somewhat dry, with a hit of bourbon on the way down. This one has a distinct bourbon-barrel flavor...it reminds me a little of Heresy with added dark fruitiness. Very nice.

Mike BBB63 gave me this about 5 months ago - it got lost in the mess of bottles in my fridge. Dark fruits and bitter chocolate soaked in rum and espresso with generous amounts of anise, vanilla, cinnamon and the crusty propane torched sugar from the top of a creme brulee. Leaves the tongue feeling somewhere between numb and plasitc bag. Great stuff - thanks Mike!

Deep dark and mysterious! Almost porter-esque reddish brown with thin fizzing tan head. Maple and sweet sugars mix with a woody alcohol nose. Front is sweet and alcohol warmed. Nutty and mapley, somewhat syrupy middle. Dry, nutty again and more alcohol at the end. Very enjoyable for a Doppelback. I like this style, without the overbearing sweetness of malts, as in most I have tried. As it warms, I would guess it had been aged in port wood or an alcohol barrel...maybe rum. My favorite from this brewer!

Dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium tan head. Sweet malt, clove, caramel, and fruit aroma. Very sweet clove and bubblegum flavors, with some caramel, malt, smoked wood and dark fruit. Medium body with a crisp tingly finish.

Deep brown. Musty, nutty smell containing almonds, and maple. Fairly strong alcohol profile, along with some nice pine plum flavors. Thick bodied. Very malty.

Vintage Unknown. Probably 2004 Very dark, burnt caramel color. The tan head is small but is quite dense. Fruity and malty nose that is quite nice, but a little mellow. The flavor however is a burst of sweet caramel malt and maple. Amazingly well balanced, not overl y sweet as some doppleocks can be. The raw malt flavors and aroma are subdued but still there. The body is full but not too syrupy. This beer is quite a treat and my thanks go out to BBB63 for this surprise treat. Cheers!
