| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 1, 2004 Dark brown color, small tan head that faded quickly.malty sweet aroma with a hint of chocolate and hops.Nice mild malt flavor with a bit of fruit maybe some bananna and possibly a little vanilla, with a decent hop taste that is a bit bitter at the end but not much so.This is a nice brew, not real high on flavor but still decent enough to be worth having a few more around. Thanks go to BBB63 for sending this brew. craven5000 (55), Westville, Indiana, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 22, 2004 Quick dying solid tan head came from the black pour. It being watery stands out. Bitter dark chocolate with occasional hints of sweetness followed by a dry, slightly smoky, bitter after taste. 5000 (2429), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2004 Bottle pours fairly black with brown highlights, small cream colored head, and likeable lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, dough, and a bit of malty sweetness. I also detect a nice chocolate smell. Initial taste is smooth, perhaps notes of milk chocolate and coffee. An ever so slight chalkiness is present. Minor hints of anise. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but not too bad. Not as dark/strong as I would have thought, but highly drinkable regardless. Thanks goes out to acrodizer for the trade!

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Updated: Jan 31, 2004Originally rated this a 2.6, but the other bottles I had weren't so bad. It was still hard to detect much from this one. The aroma has a mild vegetable quality, and the flavor was a thin and mild chocolate and coffee. A regular stout. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 12, 2003 Thinnish, brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma of motor oil, coffee, roasted barley, some astringence. Strong bitter flavor with a touch of sweetness. Too much roasted malt gives it a sense of drinking burnt toast with some coffee. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 3, 2003 i could discover no definition for "gunness", and "belle" seems a bit of wishful thinking if it's in reference to the beer's character. dark as a north korean city at midnight, a faint roan cusp appears when prodded with light. wood putty colored head seemed fizzy and kept falling asleep at it's post, but a stern shaking brings it around again. thin aroma has an uncanny resemblance to a bicycle innertube, which is not a good thing; perhaps burnt coffee- to be a bit more charitable--and a slight plummy note. rubbery overtone ruined it for me, but the charred malts, thorough dryness, assertive carbonation, weenie level of alcohol, thin body and tinny bite all stood by and watched the thing go to hell. but, okay, it's way better than having no beer at all. argo0 (6948), Washington DC, USA
