| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 23, 2002 This pours out of the bottle very dark, with a thin brown head and an aroma that hints of coffee and anise. There are nice, subtle roast coffee and anise flavors and a very bitter coffee bean finish. A very dry stout with a hint of oily in the palate. Maybe a little thin (and maybe I’ve been drinking too many imperial stouts) but very drinkable. Nothing to really detract from this nice stout. steve23mj (273), Essexville, Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 18, 2007 Moderate malty aroma, with hints of chocolate, coffee and molasses. Moderate floral hop aroma and a light yeasty aroma. Light off-white head with low head retention and lacing. Clear, brown color. Bitter dry initial flavor with dark chocolate malt middle that drys to a lingering hoppy finish. Medium body, light carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel with aslight grain astringency. This is a great improvement on the other samples tasted from this brewery. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
