bsierra (166), Vista, California, USA May 30, 2008 Out of the tank at Back Street brewery. Pours a black hue with a very nice malt bomb nose. The flavor is really complex, starting with the sweet black licorice in the first sips followed by a warm malt backing that keeps transcending into various depths and roasted dark fruit notes poking through. I’ve not had alot of Baltic Porters, so it’s hard to compare it to anything, but this is definatly a brew worth having. Be careful though, the high abv is concealed neatly behind the rich maltiness and fruit flavors. Nice job on this one A-bomb~
bb (2088), Martinez, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 Draft. Nitro. Rich dark mahogony beer with a light tan head. Light roasty, chocolate aroma with lots of malt. Chocolatey, light roast flavor with very light mineral tones. Medium body. Chocolate and light roast linger. Would be better without the nitro. cazort (348), San Diego, California, USA Aug 12, 2008 (On tap) Wow. I am really impressed by this brew. Very creamy, smooth. Not much roast and not much hops, but a sort of warm, richness, with a lot of complexity to it. Although it is a bit sweet, it does not strike me as too sweet, and although it is a malty beer with a high alcohol content, it doesn’t strike me as too heavy either. Really well-executed! hapjydeuce (564), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 15, 2008 On cask at the Real Ale Festival at Pizza Port Carlsbad on 6/13. Pours black with silky maroon edges. Sugary aroma of licorice, anise and toffee above a caramel base. Malty flavor with notes of sugar cane, molasses and more caramel. Subdued bitterness and a smoky finish. My uncle visiting from New Orleans loved this. wetherel (1012), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 13, 2008 Tried on cask at PP Real Ale Festival. I don’t think cask was the best way to present this beer, because it didn’t bring off the aromatics as well as it could have. Either that or my senses were dulled by Double Coffee Speedway. Either way I still think this is an excellent beer. Black. Low carbonation. Great aroma of caramel, molasses and malty goodness. Flavor is mild, possibly leans dry. Highly drinkable. One of the better beers here today IMHO. WeeHeavySD (1711), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 13, 2008 Cask @ Real Ale 08. Pours balck with a tan ring. Nose is heavy on the mlaty. Taste is sweet and malty, overall a good break form hops but far from excellent.
