My First Gold was in perfect condition. Cool, sweet and delicious with a healthy smack of hops in the finish. chriso (4420), London, Greater London, England Dec 11, 2005 Updated: Mar 24, 2006Cask (handpump) at GBBF, August 2005. Badger have put a lot of time and promotional activity into this beer. Its certainly an attractive enough beer - a rich copper colour. But, after that, although its perfectly pleasant, I thought it fell a bit short. The aroma is gently grassy, but a bit short of intensity. On the palate its quite dry and fresh with dabs of citric hop, a smidgen of fruit and a dash of bitterness. But it didn’t really have enough of anything to make a lasting impression. So it ends up in the overpopulated British "solid but unspectacular" camp. (5/4/6/3/12/3.0). RE-RATE. Fountain Inn, Chichester, 25 Feb 2006. On far better form than my first tasting. Bright, mid copper colour. Hops far better defined. Very citric. Crisp and refreshing.
imdownthepub (4247), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Feb 13, 2006 Cask conditioned at The Prince Edward, Bayswater, London. Dark reddish amber colour with bubbly head. Bright fragrant beer with a dusty hop aroma. The body is a little sweetish with a long hop bitterness giving some palate dryness on the finish. Easy drinking pleasant bitter, good for a session. Light and fading head. Burnt red color, limpid and rather firm. Fresh and flowery scent with a pleasant hoppy nose. Dry and arid taste, much bitter and medium alcoholic final. Decidedly hoppynes and bitter on a good persistence end. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 16, 2005 Caramel, toffee and fresh leafy hops greet the nose. Clear copper coloured body with low off-white head. Caramel and dark malts meld with leafy, floral,, earthy hops leading up to a mild finishing bitterness. Light body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Cask at GBBF 2005.
