bierkoning (5065), La Tropica, Netherlands Mar 28, 2003 Nice nut brown color. Thin, but steady head. Nutty, hoppy aroma. Hoppy flavor with caramel, hazelnuts and butter. Long bitter fnish. Typical English ale of good quality. shoestring (169), larkhall, Scotland Jan 14, 2008 Some caramel came through. Malt present. Standard and dependable fare.
Nice bitter ale. Maria (4673), Thisted, Denmark May 1, 2007 Dark amber, nice head. The aroma is both hoppy and malty. The flavour is quite full and smooth with brief sweetness and a refreshing bitterness. It has notes of roasted malt and the brew has a nice balance and is quite charming. CQC (221), Sydney, Australia Jul 5, 2002 Pretty surprised with this.... Last time I had this in the UK on draught it was nothing worth mentioning.. But this imported bottle is pretty good.
Fairly malty, quite smooth and fairly unobtrusive.
Spiesy (2331), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Nov 21, 2003 Bottled. Amber with a soft, fluffy, steadily rising head. Smooth hoppy flavour with a soft malt substructure. Elderflower notes but not as pronounced as their Champion Ale, a favourite of mine. Pleasant but not a stand out.
