Dark as Guinness, immense froathy head that would not subside for more than 10 minutes, little bagel bits on the bottom of the glass. Huge roasted coffee and smoked peat flavor. Light carbonation. Nice hop usage, you don't really notice them until about half way through, then they start to build on you. A great beer. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA

Would like a bit more body. Better than expected for what is essentially a "shtick" beer, as if somehow being made with bagels adds to the value of a beer. Dark with a thick tan head that dies down a bit but has staying power. Has hundreds of miniscule floaties which I am presuming is remnants of a bagel. Aroma is really nice with roasted malt, cocoa and a hint of chocolate. Has a great smooth full bodied feel just like a good stout. Slight dry and bitter finish, but only slight. Flavor is also really nice with a good dose of coffee and chocolate coming through and a slight hop bitterness. This is a really good brew and definitely worth trying. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2003 Big brown head topping a particle-filled black body. Aroma is rich chococoffee and light bready (though the latter may be due in part to the power of suggestion). Taste is much the same, and finishes coffee bitter. Creamy full body. Surprisingly decent beer. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 8, 2003 This beer comes from the brewery that brought us Nude Beer, which was actually quite good, but it was gimmicky. So I shouldn't be surprised by this bagel gimmick - that Coast Range Brewing supposedly puts a bit of actual bagel in each beer. Hoppy oiliness in each glass with very little sweetness leaves you recoiling from the burnt timber taste. Considerably more bittered than other porters and veering heavily into stout territory. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada

Slightly fruity nose with coffee beans and, yeah, there's some bready notes in there, not sure if it's pumpernickel though. Body is bitter-sweet with a nice roastiness and a touch of coffee. Some fruit as well, finishes lightly bitter. Nice.
