austinpowers (2827), New York, New York, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bottle; bought at Tanakaya store in Tokyo. Funny they put the Baird beers outside the Japanese section. A little thin as a brown ale, frankly, but it’s well hopped if you like that. Bitter and burnt taste of coal.
ucusty (803), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jul 16, 2008 Murky brown pour with fluffy tan head, and nice lace. Big piney aroma. Thin bodied very hoppy with a nutty twist. Lots of citrus hops maybe too much for the style. 17thfloor (581), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2008 Pours a murky brown with a large foamy beige head. Large aroma, huge christmas tree, piney, resin, sweet and perfumy, touch of pineapple. Flavor kind of follows... perfumy. Some sweet citrus/pineapple and some dry varnish/nuttiness. Its good, but kind of awkward, lacks direction, a FFF approach to beer making... hop the hell out of it no matter what the style. Medium body, crisp carbonation. hotstuff (3015), Indiana, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Medium sized tan fizzy head that mostly diminished, one ring of lacing, carbonation noted, semi-transparent and slightly hazy, and an orange brown hue. The aroma was malt, bitter, hoppy, citrus, grapefuit, and sweet. Ditto for the flavor but tasted watered down and thin. The mouthfeel was mostly smooth and lightly tingly. Light bodied. Quaffable, easy to drink due, thin tasting, nothing earth shattering going on here IMO, just a nice beer to drink. DA (2261), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jul 6, 2008 Lighter brown in color, soft beige head. Caramel and chocolate flavors come through up front, not very earthy, but a nice sweetness that would pair really well with dinner. Balanced with a soft chocolate finish. Really well built brown ale. Eyedrinkale (3091), Beer Town, New York, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle. Short lived, big bubbled head, cloudy brown color. Aroma is plenty nutty and you can tell there’s a ton of hops (Cascade?). Hops are hoppy and the malts are toasty. I hate to say a beer is over hopped so I won’t. Lets just say it’s the hoppiest Brown I’ve had and I enjoyed it. Really good stuff.
