Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is the biggest of the black beers and to drink Baird Dark Sky is to experience a foreboding libation. The aroma is gorgeously complex (dry hopping with American Centenniel & Amarillo hops) and the flavor is a stunning smorgasbord (chocolate, toffee, herbs, coffee, licorice, etc.). The mouthfeel is soft and enveloping. The finish is piquantly acrid and warming (alcohol approximately 7.6%).

Pours dark brown with small brown head. Heavy roasted malt on the nose with hints of spice. Flavor is rich with coffee, chocolate, and bits of white pepper on the back end. Nice texture and very drinkable.

Served from a 22 oz bottle from Pizza Port Bottle Shop. The appearance is a deep chocolaty brown with a super small roasted brown head. The aromas are rich with roasted malts, chocolate, espresso, with a touch of hops. The flavors are chocolate covered cherries initially and then quickly turn into heavily roasted malts and oak with some lactose in there and some herbal note. The mouth is medium dry with a low amount of carbonation. An above average but not great IS.

Dark brown with a thinner, somewhat wispy tan head. Aromas of roasted grains, coffee, molasses, some char, dark fruit and earthy hops. Flavors start sweet and lead to some chary bitterness. Finish has some coffee grounds and dark chocolate. Technically correct imperial stout.

Pours super dark, thin but solid sheet of tan sheet of suds atop. Smells somewhat charred, cola-like, with heavily roasted coffee notes, licorice, and leafy, resiny hop tones. Thick, super oily body with resiny hop notes, and humid warmth. Flavors are roasty and resiny with licorice notes. The bitterness is almost overwhelming here as the other flavors are having a hard time refining themselves. Overall, the beer seems to have a problem organizing it’s flavors and everything seems kind of unrefined and flimsy. The bitterness is somewhat distracting as well as it overwhelms the flavors that there malts are trying to portray. Nothings offensive or off, but i dont think the pieces really fit together here.

Looks like an oil spill in the artic ocean with a subtle milky lacing. Nose is heavy with chocolate, coffee, boric acid, caramel, and smoke. Red vines, cherries, chocolate, nuts, smoke, and hibiscus flowers. Dry mouth feel kind of bitter with a warming alcohol finish.

Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours a deep dark black with a thin tan head. Light hop presence, chocolate, coffee, a touch of vanilla and barely a hint of bourbon. Medium body, light chocolate, roast, and coffee. Finishes with a touch of warming alcohol and a long lingering roast character.
