Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle from Belmont Station in Portland, OR--Poured a dark brown-black body with a small tan head. Nose of roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, and dark fruits. Highly carbonated and effervescent. Finished mildly sweet and chalky. Quite smooth!
marcus (1053), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 24, 2008 This black ale poured with a generous tan head and a pleasant chocolate aroma. There is a rich smoked malt flavor with some chocolate notes and a chalky finish. There is a lot of sediment in the glass and bottle. 17thfloor (728), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 24, 2008 Pours a near black brown with a huge frothy tan head, mountainous! Big floral hop aroma with some pineapple and what smells like chocolate pudding? Perfumy and oily aroma. Flavor is chocolate pudding, some espresso roast and sweet floral and citrus hops. Tastes like a porter mixed half and half with a pacific-northwest pale. I didn’t like the oily-perfume like qualities of their brown, however the much richer porter plays off well with the citric hops. Nice mouthful, medium/full smooth with larger but softer soda carbonation. Very easy drinking as well. thornecb (1141), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 11, 2008 Pours mahogany into a stem glass. Mocha head with medium retention leaves spot lacing as it recedes. Pit fruit aromas. Smoky and a little thin. Dark caramel and pit fruits upfront with a chalky dry lasting finish. Suttree (2336), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 1, 2008 Pours black, with a huge tan head. Subtle aroma of coffee, burnt toast. Very clean, crisp palate. Flavor is mostly coffee and a touch of coffee. Some roasty bitterness. argo0 (6231), Washington DC, USA Aug 26, 2008 (12oz bottle) Slight gusher of tan head that reveals a clear dark brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, roast, coffee, some burnt, caramel, nut, light earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, chococoffee, some roast, caramel, light burnt. Light-medium body, some stickiness, low carbonation, easy drinking. A bit too sweet, but enjoyable nonetheless.
