hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 19, 2005 Bottle... Murky, caramel colored ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Flemish nose... lemon and wood. Tastes a bit like brand new Tupperware with a caramel chaser. A touch grassy. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Lengthy, sweet finish with a whisper of mango at the very end. Overall, not a bad brew, but it’s a little too sweet for me. Spendy too, at around $15 per bottle. cvillebeer (134), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 10, 2005 This is a fine example of a belgian abbey-style ale with rich aromas and flavors of dark fruit. Well balanced and recommended except for the price- around $14 or $15 if I remember. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 3, 2005 Floral, lightly phenolic, icing sugar, doughy, lightly spicy, lavender, vanilla, marzipan aroma. Opaque tan-brown with a shy white head that recedes quickly to a light ring. Plenty of yeast in suspension. Very floral and malty with a strong vanilla character. Peppery, spruce-like spices emerge more in the finish along with a black tea, tannin leafiness that lasts on the tongue. Fruity orange-pineapple-cherry notes. Medium body with fair carbonation. Bottle enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Olivier MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie. OlivierMTL (712), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 2, 2005 Updated: May 3, 2005Couleur ambrée tirant vers l’oranger, orné d’une faible mousse brune pale pleinement diminuante. Appréciable, inhabituel et certainement vive comme image. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 2, 2005 Hazy orangey amber color with a ring of white lace. Aroma of dough, yeast, spices and alcohol. Flavor of dough, yeast and spices. Light to medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 1, 2005 Cloudy amber. An off-white ring doesn’t last on top of it. Very doughy aroma. This yeast strain of theirs sure does create interesting flavours. On top of that, the super possesses a great self-assurance in aroma that would make it recognizable among a dozen of similar products. Rich biscuity malt, maybe chocolatey even is loaded with marzipan, almonds and wood. Heathery yellow apple skins comes out powdery and make me think of the quintessential bakes fruits salad. Strong yeastiness, highly carbonated. Light-medium body could use some weight perhaps, but this remains remarkable stuff. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 18, 2005 Updated: Jun 26, 2005(Bottle 75 cl) Light amber, extremely hazy from the lack of filtration. Massive and quite stable head. High on carbonation. Has the typical Baladin-touch though I’m not able to describe exactly, what it is - perhaps it’s the house-yeast? Malty, sugary but not excessively sweet and then with some hoppiness in the finish. Quite well done. 231204 Choos (504), Taylors Hill, Australia Mar 16, 2005 Aroma: malty and spiritous (a good start!) Appearance: poures clear amber/brown with the yeast becomes nicely hazy. Tiny head that quickly dissipates. Flavour: malty with a tiny bit of herbal and once again that plastic/bandaid strangeness. Palate: bubby with a medium mouthfeel.
