lithy (206), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 30, 2008 2005 Vintage. Neat corked bottle. Pour is dark ruby brown with absolutely no head. Some bubbles but no carbonation. Some fine sediment sneaks in. Strong alcohol aromas, woody, tobacco, vinuous. Very sweet on the tongue hints at grapes and figs. Excellently done oxidation. Nice port flavors with a warming alcohol finish. Harsh aromas but an incredible taste, smooth and sticky but not cloying. Expensive at 40 bucks but worth it for an experience. Slayer85 (457), Firenze, Italy Sep 23, 2008 Bottled, 2005 vintage. A hazy dark ruby beer with absolutely no head. The aroma is strong and moderately alcoholic with many vinous notes and Port. The flavour is enormously sweet, with no bitterness. Some fruity notes and again many resemblances to wine. Syrupy and perhaps lightly cloying. Medium to full body, very low carbonation, long sweet finish with no bitterness. The alcohol is felt. Interesting and very strange, odd but not particularly exciting to my palate. Good burt too expensive. JoeinUccle (689), Brussels, Belgium Sep 16, 2008 Bottle, sampled at Bruxellensis. This one pushes the beer envelope and arrives firmly in digestif territory. A clear, honey-brown color, no head, and serious legs in the glass, it looks like a liqueur. Nose has sweet whiskey, bit of chocolate, port. Fairly sweet but not cloying with an expected touch of alcohol burn. Tastes good and warms the belly. An indulgent beer and a nice experience.
