| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Bottle from State Line. Pours turbid copper with minimal off-white head. The aroma is caramel malt, raisins, figs, mild spices, berries, and cognac. Tastes extremely sweet, in fact, the initlal dregs are very cloyingly sweet and I found it hard to continue until I let this one warm up a bit. By then, the heat vapors had emerged somewhat, so I drank it as a sort of Irish Mist/beer hybrid. The taste profile isn’t bad, but it was hard to get past the cloying sweetness. I think mixing this with a Cantillon would cause the Earth to explode or something. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Pours with a deep red body topped by a thin head with no lacing. It’s very sweet and malty with lots of candy sugar and a little bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied and smooth. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Pours a hazy dark amber with no head. A large sherry and malt nose. Flavor is just not good in every way. Fake sugar, odd alcohol (powerful but no burn), green apple, raisins, rotten bodies. If this was classified as schnapps instead of beer I’d be a bit more forgiving in the score. This isn’t just a bash it because it is expensive review, this stuff is awful. I honestly had a difficult time getting through my small sample. BeerandBlues2 (3203), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2008 2004 vintage, purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours hazy brown with a spare, fizzy, light brown head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of light alcohol, raisin, date, port, and maple syrup. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness, light acidity, and moderate bitterness. A definite sipper that gets better as it warms closer to room temperature. unclemattie (2410), Georgia, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 4, 2008 A copper color with virtually no head. The aroma consists of alcohol, dark fruit, and some brandy notes. The flavor consists of maple syrup, honey, sherry, and grapes. A very warming beer but not as sweet as I had imagined. Overall this was a very nice barleywine. Rictus (126), Camdenton, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 2, 2008 Sweet wine smell. Beautiful dark amber color. Abit too sweet, very port-like without the tongue drying that wine does. A little alcohol that kind of makes the effect of capsaicin. Very thick and uncarbonated feel to it. Kind of like a sweet wine all around. Good if you like wine.
