| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 30, 2009 2004 bottle - Nice looking reddish color, very port-like with no head. Aroma of big sugar, oak, over ripe fruits, sherry, and port. Flavor is quite sweet - a lot like GLI’s 275th with overwhelming sugar, sweet and ripe tropical fruits, oxidation/sherry, wood. Quite nice all around, but for the price you can get almost a case of Old Horizontal, which I would much prefer. Nice for a one time treat. kiefdog (1647), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2009 2004 vintage bottle from Beverage Castle (Tampa, FL). Pours a syrupy, menacing tobacco brown color with no head. Very light to no carbonation, but a slight pop from the bottle when cracked. Aroma is sweet and boozy with a complex array of ripe dark fruits, rum-soaked raisins, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, wood, some vinous qualities. Flavor is sweet and syrupy with sweet toffee, caramel, ripe dark fruit, overripe apple, vanilla, wood, brown sugar, bourbon-like character. Generally medium body with a syrupy sweet, and strongly alcohol finish. hellbilly (1566), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

rusty brown colored and absolutely still.
it smells sticky... more exactly, it smells like oxidized barley wine mixed with tawny port... vinous, hot, chocolate, soy sauce, fig and vanilla.
it tastes the same with the addition of some toasted nuts and coffee... along with being obscenely sweet and beyond rich into seizure territory.
thick cloying mouth feel is not helped out by the lack of bubbles.
interesting. not necessarily good though. 8/4/3/2/10/2.7 redlight (1499), Winter Park, Florida, USA

Smooth and sweet, very oaky, cherries and dark fruits, port-like flavors with vanilla and sweet malts. So so smooth. Awesome beer!!! tomthompson89 (1494), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 22, 2009 50cl bottle thanks to photomike. Orange amber color with no head, which was to be expected due to the lack of carbonation. Sweet and fruity aroma of dried apples, brown sugar, and rich caramel. The flavor was a malt feast, with low hops and almost no alcohol presence. Big dried fruit and brown sugar flavors, with hint of oxidation adding to the port wine feel of the beer. The body is full and a touch oily, with zero carbonation. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into this beer, heck, I didn’t even know that it was still, but I loved it. A very well crafted and unique barley wine that is a great dessert sipper. I’m glad that we split this five ways, as it was about the perfect amount, akin to a dessert wine. At the price it commands, this will be a very rare purchase, but I would definitely like to have it again. GreatLibations (1454), Last Supper, Arizona, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 13, 2007 Pours tawny w/ just a few soapy bubbles rising then quickly goes flat. Aromas of granny smith apples, chewy caramel and slight fresh roasted peanuts. Interesting to say the least. Full nectar w/ no effers at all. Still as night. This brew possesses a viscous and lucious texture. Extremely malty and sweet w/ an abundance of complexities to keep me very busy indeed. I am shocked that this is actually beer. It profiles like a fine tawny porto. Big caramel and honey comb flavors accentuated w/ nuts, graham cracker, honey, molasses, melon, peaches, plums, wild apple, and a hint of chocolate covered mint. An angel food cake character emerges after a little warming. Theres a mild acidic component that just barely scratches the surface. This is a desert beer all the way. The finish is long and sweet w/ no bittering. I am left w/ a sweet nutty flavor to linger. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall: thick, lucious, and sweet w/ a very complex flavor profile akin to a tawny port. This is as rare as it gets. Alot goes into this brew so I was expecting alot out of it. I must say it’s not what I expected but I am pleasantly surprised. Share this with a friend during the holidays. nqualls (1428), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Glass:Taster.
Appearance:Dark brown pour with an ultra-thin head. Lots of suspended carbonation.
Aroma:Aroma was burned sugar, molasses, brown sugar and sherry.
Flavor:A lot of residual sweetness. Brown sugar and molasses. Reminds me of Thomas Hardys.
Palate:Extremely full body...think heated pancake syrup with more carbonation than I would have expected, but the body doesn’t allow it to escape.
Overall:I really enjoyed this. Would be perfect as an after dinner drink from a cordial or a snifter.
