| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 28, 2007 Amber/copper color, with no head at all. Aroma is fruit, wine and/or port, syrup, and malt. Flavor is syrup, fruit, malt, port, honey and some alcohol. Body is thinner than expected. Lack of carbonation hurts it a little. Thanks to dsnowden for this bottle. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 25, 2007 2004 bottle. Clear, dark amber/copper color. Still. Aroma of sherry, raisins, molasses, wood and a whiff of alcohol. Flavor was fairly sweet, with lots of dark dried fruits, brown sugar, sherry, caramel malt with a warming alcohol finish. Definitely a slow sipping beer to be enjoyed on a cold night by a warm fire. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 16, 2007 Bottled. Beer is hazy dark reddish-brown. No head.
Not a pretty first impression on the nose: kombucha juice and old sherry dominate. Only survivors are a light note of boozy wood, a moderate candy sugar note, and a flicker of toasted bread crust.
The flavor is moderately/heavily sweet, lightly bitter with a long, warm, lightly bitter, moderately sweet finish.
The body is medium/full, the texture is syrupy and the carbonation is still.
No real redemption. markwise (1200), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 22, 2009 Thanks gunhaver for the share. Holy mackarel, this beer was amazing. 2004 vintage. Pours clear brown with a minimalists’ kind of head. Nose is boozy as hell- burn nose hairs off boozy with contributions from raisins, sugar, ripe fruit, cherry, vanilla, maple, malt, and some nuttiness- many characteristics of an icewine. Flavor is silky smooth with malt, vanilla, brown sugar, raisin, and caramel. I agree with sebletitje in this being like a liquor. The best Italian beer I have ever had. Simply amazing. moejuck (1172), Ohio, USA

Reddish borwn body. Full, thick, and syrupy palate. Sticky sweet taste--much like a mead actually. Flavors of honey, spice, brandy, and caramel. Very interesting and tasty beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2007 I forget who brought this beer to jjpm74’s gathering, but it was most appreciated. Poured a cloudy amber with an off-white head. Strange aroma of buttered biscuits, with some sweet almost diacetyl-like notes. Kind of off-putting. However, the flavor is much nicer with sweet brown sugar, molasses, a bit of honey. A very sweet barley wine, but pleasant to drink once I got past the aroma.
