Aromas of fruit, tobacco and leather. It’s got floaties! [small ones] Then the aroma goes towards plums. Now I can imagine chocolate. Super full bodied. Hardly any carbonation. Flavor is medium sweet, and then confusing: mapley? dates? Chocolate? And there’s a lot more. This is what SA’s Tripple Bock should hae been. It’s wonderful. Just gets better and better. cgarvieuk (4183), Edinburgh, Scotland

Deep ruby coloured, rich liquer like tracle rum nose, think viscous syrupy sweet with a little smokeyness, little woody treacle, with hints of sherry and a little spirit like evaporation on the pallate. Acording to the bottle its also best before "the end of the world" goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA

Pours a clear dark copper brew, thick and syrupy with no head. Aroma of rich caramel, fruity character, some aged wood, raisined prunes and plenty of alcohol to burn the nose. Taste is oily, thick, no carbonation with flavors of rich caramel malt, some brown sugar and a touch of molasses. Finish is strong alcohol warmth with a sticky caramel malt flavor. A decent sipper barley wine. Ughsmash (4027), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2007 2004 Vintage 500mL bottle. Poured a still, transparent ruddy brown with very fine particles suspended in there.. nothing doing for head, but it left some lovely legs on the glass. The aroma was just enchanting.. brandy sugars, vanilla, and dark fruits meld expertly into sweet, lightly-toasted oak and caramel.. came across as rather innocent, but darker, more powerful forces were apparent... almost came across as more of a fine liqueur than a beer.
The flavor picked up where the nose left off.. syrupy dark fruits with a Port wine feel lead off with caramel, molasses, and mild herbal notes across the middle.. sweet and warm finish hid the alcohol very well. Syrupy-thick on the palate with mild, complimentary spices and only warmth from the alcohol.. flowed nicely across the palate. This was quite a treat, but I think it’s going to catch up to me in about half an hour. HogTownHarry (4005), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada

Poured clear, oily mahogany with a small tan head. Strongly alcoholic aroma, wonderfully woody, thick nutty almost burnt caramel malt - very rich, with some tart fig and not quite ripe apricot. The taste - man this is nice! - maple syrup, roast caramel malt, lighter alcohol presence and the tart fruit and a bit of herbal character enter in the finish. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel, long silky finish - I loved this; it’s not too much like beer, but I loved it, more like a soft, sweet sherry; excellent. Sammy (4003), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

This one had a small head, and little carbonation. I drank it but its style is akin to cough medicine. Radek Kliber (3946), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada

Clear ruby amber, high viscosity.
Rich, alcoholic nose (highly refined), wood (oak touches).
Oily, very low carbonation, good clean alcohol. Sweet yet smooth. Balanced at such extreme. High quality sipper.
