Smells of port or sherry, and this feeling of aged fortifies wine is present i the flavour, too. To be slowly sipped - one glass per person is adequate! This is like capturing the spirit of beer. The label says 12%, it has the warming feeling of 30%. Dried fruit - prunes and cherries, a lovely sweet and sour aroma lingering. A perfect end to a beer evening - this is as good as it gets! daknole (3030), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Expensive freaking 2005 edition ($48). Labeled 13%. Pours with a still maple hazed color and some medium strength alcohol legs attached to the side of the glass. Some particles towards the end of the bottle. Aroma is very nice with port, madeira, chocolate syrup, prunes, raisins, fusel alcohol and butterscotch. Taste is like drinking maple syrup with port, a touch of wood, sherry, SUPER HIGH RESIDUAL SUGARS, raisins and a slightly bitter finish. Although there is noticeable alcohol in the aroma their is minimal transferred to the taste. Ungodly maple syrupy thick mouthfeel. Seriously one of the thickest beers I have ever had. Nice, but not nearly fifty bones worth of niceness. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Wonderous aroma, rich malt, huge hops, clear garnet, zero head. Flavour is cognac-like at the start, caramel and gorgeous malt and some treacle. Beautifuly balanaced, warming, a comfort beer. Superb! Thanks so much R! Ibrew2or3 (2833), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Updated: Mar 29, 2009Bottled shared with Degarth, Quake1028 and Gillard. Pours a muddy brown with no head. The aroma is just delicious with a sweet slap in the face of dark fruity esters showing up as figs, dates and sugar dredged plums. Behind the hammer of sweetness is a caramel candy backbone. The taste is an initial sludge of sweet sweet prunes followed by figs, dates and very ripe cherries. It is just silky sweet. The initial impression is that this would be a great dessert beer. A stream of creamy caramel candy wells up only a small offering of flavor next to the wealth of fruitiness. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a beer this expensive. I was prepared for it to be worse. Maybe that is partially why it tastes so darn good. Very good, in fact. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 26, 2008 Thanks to Hopstar for this brew. Pours amber with a faint white head that fades quickly. Syrupy palate that reminds me of mead or port. Flavor of caramel, honey, port, butterscotch and a faint clove hint to it. Alcohol was there, but not overwhelming. This was a 2004 bottle so it has had time to soften. Very well built sipper beer.
