One of the most complex, pleasant, and interesting beers that ever overwhelmed me with sugar. Loved it, but couldn’t finish it. My fault for opening on a hot day. Be warned. Pours a murky dark brown with bright caramel highlights. Headless, laceless, leggy, oily, sticky. Body’s super oily and sticky on the tongue. Oranges, sweet grape juice, caramel, toffee. Big thick sticky body, wow. Very sugary sweet--lots of complex flavors behind all that sugar. Could probably cellar for decades. Ibrew2or3 (2761), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Updated: Mar 29, 2009Bottled shared with Degarth, Quake1028 and Gillard. Pours a muddy brown with no head. The aroma is just delicious with a sweet slap in the face of dark fruity esters showing up as figs, dates and sugar dredged plums. Behind the hammer of sweetness is a caramel candy backbone. The taste is an initial sludge of sweet sweet prunes followed by figs, dates and very ripe cherries. It is just silky sweet. The initial impression is that this would be a great dessert beer. A stream of creamy caramel candy wells up only a small offering of flavor next to the wealth of fruitiness. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a beer this expensive. I was prepared for it to be worse. Maybe that is partially why it tastes so darn good. Very good, in fact. Poured brown/deep amber/deep copper in color with no head at all. Cloudy. Not sparkling at all. Full of large and huge particles throughout. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of dark ripe fruits, toffee, light wood, raisins, plums, figs, dark ripe fruits, slight wood, light honey, and a hint of tobacco. Full body. Viscous, syrupy texture is slightly dry. Zero carbonation. Sweet, dark ripe fruit, slight tobacco, and slight honey finish. On par with Sam Adams’ Utopia. 13.5%ABV is present in the nose but not in the flavor. nick76 (2667), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2007 The aroma has syrup, yeast, cork, and malt. The appearance is copper/amber with no head. The flavor is very sweet but not cloying or overpowering. The palate is thick and sticky. The overall quality is very good and it’s amazing that it’s almost 14% alcohol since I don’t feel a burn. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Thick body. Wonderful after dinner stuff here, a unique creation. Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 25, 2009 Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, chocolate, molasses, alcohol, raisin, and faint fruit. It pours a mostly transparent brownish-orange with lots of fine sediment and a few scant bubbles and a ring around the edge of the glass. The flavor is very malty. It starts with a sugary combination if caramel, molasses, and caramel. The some faint fruitiness in the background. The finish has some hints of raisin, apple, cinnamon, and alcohol. the aroma would lead you to believe it would be much hotter. Full bodied with minimal carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 16, 2007 Appearance: Pours a still, clear reddish-brown body. It certainly does look viscous!
Smell: Honey blended with rich caramel syrup and light brown sugar. Distinctive golden raisin character. Hint of oloroso.
Taste: From the word "go" it’s an extreme honey-sweet, caramel flavor with plenty of golden raisin fruitiness. Some slight oxidative notes. Faint hint of herbal hops. Sweet, succulent finish with a perky alcoholic kick. It’s hard not to have a certain "glow" about you after that first sip.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation. Nicely warming. Xyauyù has a lush, velvety mouthfeel you’d expect from a sweet dessert wine.
Drinkability: Truly, a fantastic beer! And it better be for the cost, especially when you consider the picture of the bottle on your screen is the actual size of the bottle itself.
