Bottle from mgumby, thanks man! 2004. Lots of sweet honey in the aroma--awesome aroma. Reddish borwn body. Full, thick, and syrupy palate. Sticky sweet taste--much like a mead actually. Flavors of honey, spice, brandy, and caramel. Very interesting and tasty beer.

2005. pours a flat gold copper with no head. Heavy alchohol on the aroma, the strong scent gives a hesitancy to take the first sip, but the alchohol is stronger on the nose, and it is not has hot as the aroma suggests, very well balanced and much smoother than what is going thur your mind as you bring the glass to your lips, the first sip is the hottest, but once it gets on your tongue each subsequent sip gets better, where the last sip was the best and I was begging for more. Once your palate adjusts you can notice the subtlties in this beer and it is DARN good, and a wonderful drink. Mouthwatering so, very enjoyable, and ag reat conversation ehancer. good stuff.

A big thanks to Ibrew2or3,Quake1028,and Degarth for trhis one. This one changed my opinion of barley wines. Pours a beautiful copper collor with no head to speak of. Taste of candied fruits, figs even a hint of apples. Palate was spot on thick and coating. All and all one the best beverages i have had to date.

2004 vintage bottle from Beverage Castle (Tampa, FL). Pours a syrupy, menacing tobacco brown color with no head. Very light to no carbonation, but a slight pop from the bottle when cracked. Aroma is sweet and boozy with a complex array of ripe dark fruits, rum-soaked raisins, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, wood, some vinous qualities. Flavor is sweet and syrupy with sweet toffee, caramel, ripe dark fruit, overripe apple, vanilla, wood, brown sugar, bourbon-like character. Generally medium body with a syrupy sweet, and strongly alcohol finish.

2005 vintage, sampled 2009
Vibrant golden-burgundy with some haze particles. Flat. No head. Doesn’t look bad, though. Deep caramel with some brown sugars, but also some cardboard. It’s got fruity notes, but also olive and a hint of chocolate. Very sweet, brown sugary, with lots of fruity complexity. Rich. So rich in fact it takes on a mead or sherry quality. Really cool stuff.

Pours still. Oily looking. Bright copper colour, with legs. The aroma is richly malty, vinous and alcoholic. I’m surprised at the abv being so low, because in appearance and aroma this is a much bigger beer, in the utopian league wherein the product of barley and hop has moved beyond beer into a totally different form of beverage. The flavour confirms this - soft, sweet, and very decadent. Brown sugar maltiness and light esters keep the beer rounded. The body is exquisite - a sticky dessert that glides down your throat. This goes beyond barley wine to a happy place. 7-3-8-4-16 = 3.8

Bottle bronze label 2004 vintage: Pours a viscous oily transparent deep copper with a thin ring of off-white bubbles, but mostly still. Aroma of dense, sweet caramel malt with oxidized dark fruity raisin and brown sugar complexity. Body is rich and molten dark caramely sticky sweet with a nice balance of fruitiness, brown sugar, and alcoholic warmth. Well-aged and very complex with a smooth, yet rich finish.

A copper color with virtually no head. The aroma consists of alcohol, dark fruit, and some brandy notes. The flavor consists of maple syrup, honey, sherry, and grapes. A very warming beer but not as sweet as I had imagined. Overall this was a very nice barleywine.
