Commercial Description:
A beer brewed and matured to 13.5% ABV going to 14.5% in next productions. Malts: Pilsner Durst, aromatic Dingemans, caramunich 140 Dingemans. Hops: Hallertau Hernsbrucker, Spalt Select and East Kent Golding. Brewing process: the wort is hyperconcentrated then boiled for two hous and half. Primary fermentation for 25 in steel vessels. Then after a sterile filtration (to eliminate primary yeast strains) the beer is transfered in a steel vessel with transparent membrane and a "oxygen hat". Afeter several tasting from 6 to 24 months later (it depends on the oxidation velocity, very inconsistant!) the brewer decides when it’s time to bottle in 50cl. champagne shape bottles with good quality cork. No head. Deep amber body. Sugary port and honey aroma with fruity notes. Sweet rounded fruity port taste with honey and apple notes. Some alcohol taste, too. Dry alcoholic dried fruity and malt aftertaste. (0.74l bottle at Knut Albert’s.)

Sampled at Cellars Wine & Spirits and shared by brewfiend. Pours a clear dark copper brew, thick and syrupy with no head. Aroma of rich caramel, fruity character, some aged wood, raisined prunes and plenty of alcohol to burn the nose. Taste is oily, thick, no carbonation with flavors of rich caramel malt, some brown sugar and a touch of molasses. Finish is strong alcohol warmth with a sticky caramel malt flavor. A decent sipper barley wine.

Shared out of my drunken stash with scufflman, abervaatyo0er, skyview, and who know who else. not the magnificence of the utopias. but good. damn. i wish i could actually see at the moment, but thankfully that’s not an issue thanks to touch typing. sweet malt nose. caramel color. cloyingly sweet body. I could do with less sweetness, bu this will do. A little oak with the usual suspects. Not bad but probably better in a few years.

Expensive bottle coutresy of hopscotch. Pours dark brown with some fizzy tan bubbles. Smells of sour cherries, some nuttiness and residual sugar. Tastes of creamy malt, cherries, lots of tarte qualities. Mouthfeel is thick and velvety with a nutty sugary finish. I liked this one quite a bit.

Corked 50cl bottle labeled 2004 and 12% (thanks Kuaska). Pours a deep amber color with no head. Sherry-like aroma, medium body, no carbonation. Pronounced maple sugar flavor and sweetness. Late slight alcohol character. Slight brown sugar hint - rum-like.

Bottle bronze label 2004 vintage: Pours a viscous oily transparent deep copper with a thin ring of off-white bubbles, but mostly still. Aroma of dense, sweet caramel malt with oxidized dark fruity raisin and brown sugar complexity. Body is rich and molten dark caramely sticky sweet with a nice balance of fruitiness, brown sugar, and alcoholic warmth. Well-aged and very complex with a smooth, yet rich finish.
