On tap at O’Brien’s. Appearance is a clear ruby red/brown hue, minimal head and lacing, plenty of effervescent bubbles. Smell is smoke and roast malts, earthy and grassy tones, clean but underwhelming. Taste is lighter tones of smoke and roast, hints of coffee, caramel, anise, grassy hops, finishes with sweet malts and smoked meats. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, smooth and creamy texture, high and prickly carbonation. Drinkability is moderate, low alcohol presence, this is an effervescent smokey beer that is a lighter version of heavier rauchbiers, good balance but I wouldn’t drink a large amount of this one.

Taster @ Home Brew Mart. smokey nose smoky and malty body overall pretty nice all around. Not as bad as the percentile woudl suggest. Bomber handbottle shared by LagunitasFan, he got it via trade with TheRealBastard, a bottle I believe from GABF. Pours brownish, with a tan ring. Nose is smoky and rich. Taste is smoky, rich, with a nice punch of malt and lingering smoky essence. Pretty nice.

On tap @ Ballast Point brewery and homebrew shop--Dirty copper body with a wispy small white head. Mild peat nose. Nice wood-smoked flavor. Not too bold with smoke.

Draught Fine head over copper-chestnut coloured beer. Smokey nose, slightly phenolic, Lapsan Souchong tea; Sweet and smoked - a bit too sweet, somehow molasses-like, and again Lapsan, as well as some smoked ham. Reasonably bodied, quite smooth and slick.

On-tap at HomeBrewMart. Pours clearish light brown color with a crisp white head, no lace. Smells smokey and a touch malty. Tastes smokey and malty as well. The malts come through the smoke nicely. A little bit of smoked meat on the aftertaste. Thin boldy, crisp carbonation.
