Nose is all the typical west coast IPA usual suspects ... citrus, pine, grapefruit, etc. Flavor is bitter grapefruit rind, unripe oranges, resiny pine al nicely melded together with a sweet malt backbone. Another great job from Ballast Point. kiefdog (1633), Tampa, Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2009 12 oz. bottle pours a copper color with foamy white head. Aroma is of malt with piney underpinnings. Front palate is dry and of green hay with warm middle of pine, spice and yeast and a hearty hops finish. Mild aftertaste of hops. Nicely blended beer with a solid profile of malt and hops without being too over the top hoppy. Would pair nicely with crisp greens or a lightly flavored chicken dish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 5, 2009 Citrusy IPA that finishes good and bitter, a good, better than normal style California IPA. Very drinkable and good! Glouglouburp (2877), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 30, 2009 In short: Plenty of caramelized malts and plenty of citrusy and resinous hops. Above average American IPA archetype.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh a few weeks after purchase.
The look: Clear golden copper body topped by a small beige head
In long: The pleasant hoppy nose is mostly citrusy with also some resinous, floral and coniferous notes. Smooth body with a soft carbonation. Rich smooth caramel followed by a citrusy and resinous hopping. The bitterness is of medium-high intensity but it is never aggressive with enough smooth juicy citrus flavour to offset the rougher resinous flavour. This beer sure does not re-invent the style, it actually feels very common, but this is the type of well done IPA I can drink all night long and get myself as wasted as a green party vote in Kansas.
