Bottle at Post Zythos Struise Tasting 08. Pretty big IPA, lovely malts, but just not quite as good as the 21st Amendment IPA I drank it next too. Bit more toffee and a bit emptier in the mouthfeel.

Bottled. Hazy amber coloured with a medium sized off-white head. Somewhat malty with notes of pines, flowers, soap and feels quite sharp and a bit sour.

22oz Bomber A big thanks to brentk56 for sending this as an extra in a recent trade. This was one of those slow gushers that created a gigantic head when first poured. Big Eye empties into my glass a moderately hazy pale orange. Large random carbonation bubbles make their way to the surface. After I was able to pour a glass the head was meringue-like and left huge sticky patches as it eventually settled. The head alone makes for a good looking IPA. The nose is unmistakeably full of centennial goodness. I always find centennials to bring a big nose of juicy ripe pears along with some tartness from green apples. Very reminiscent of orchard fruits. There’s plenty of malt in the background mostly in the form of toffee and caramel. Makes my mouth water after each whiff. While Big Eye is certainly a good IPA it just doesn’t live up to the aroma. Those juicy ripe pears are in the aroma but caramel coated with a side of toffee. The flavors just seem a little rough around the edges and there’s a slight alcohol present that seems to cut right through everything else. Moderate body with perky carbonation. The carbonation will kick start the tastebuds. Finishes smooth with a nice sweet hop kick. A fairly easy drinking IPA. The bomber is no problem at all to finish on my own. Another quality IPA from the Left Coast. I’m a fan of both Big Eye and Dorado from Ballast Point. 2/28/08

gift from my wife from beer on the wall. pour is a clear amber with a thin white head, good lacing. smell of grapefruit hops, caramel, some grassiness, some malt. taste has lots of hops, very bitter, some sweetness, ends dry and, yes, bitter.

Lots of grapefruit and orange in the aroma, with some strange malt aroma... it might be a little old. Taste is hugely orange and sweet grapefruit. Slight orange rind and grapefruit bitterness, but not enough to really say "this is bitter". Just a decent IPA. 737315 -- draft re-rate might be necessary-- Rerate 4/5/08 Aroma is orange dankness, caramel malts. Taste is initially fizzy as all get out and orange soapiness. Grainy. Very solid lingering bitterness 838416

12oz random in my gf’s fridge. Pours coper with a half finger tan head. Nose is sweet and hoppy with a nice resin finish. Taste is sweet, hoppy and a nice bitter finish. A bit too much bitternes for me. Its clearly a good local IPA, but it I’m not sure I’d order a pint of this, it might hit the problem zone for me and IPAs when I go out. That said its good.
