Pours a golden, slightly bronze with a small head and some light carbonation.
Aroma is very hoppy. Sort of smells like a barleywine too. Has some dark fruit elements to it as well.
A mixture of citrusy hops, dark fruit, and malts on the taste make for a blend that initially is pleasant but seems somehow off at the finish. About halfway through this, I’m beginning to dislike the aftertaste of the hops. Its bitter which I usually love but in this case, it has an unpleasantness to it. Overall, an average IPA. Certainly not one of the elites. Glad I got to give this California local a try though. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA

The crisp, bitter flavor has ample citrus hops but at the same time is very well balanced. The lingering bitterness of these same high quality hops caps off this great IPA. Poured a brilliant lighter orange with a very nice initial cap of beige head. The aroma picked up plenty of juicy grapefruit and lesser caramel with overtones of pine tar.. well-presented! The flavor found grapefruit, pears, and oranges with a bright, and rather unbalanced bitterness surrounding and lasting well through the finish (mostly pine with interlaced citrus).. grasses and pine join in the sweet, grainy finish. Medium-bodied with decent flow across the palate. Solid stuff. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Distinct, but not strong pine hop aromas, what do come through really tickle the nose, caramel malts nudge a few moecules throughpretty much what you should expect from a good IPA,taste is mainly the pine of hops ,a little oily and perhaps a touch past their peak, balancing caramel backing tastey bitter finish, your basic top shelf San Diego IPA.
