Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

From a 22 oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is malty, almost like a burnt raisin. A little sweet. Pours like black coffee with a creamy tan head. First is the dark caramel raisin flavor followed by some toasty malt and dark chocolate with a little roast in the finish. Some hop character, but subtle in the background. Very balanced and drinkable. Smooth mouthfeel with a fairly dry finish. I really enjoy this beer.

Pours black with an amber tint from the tap at the brewery with a tan head. Loaded with cocoa, mild coffee, and wood chips. Tasty.

Taste 11/8 Bottle. Opaque Black thin heavy head. Aroma: Coffee, Chocolate and toasted malt. Taste: A little smoke, toasted malt, mild chocolate, a light dark fruit sweetness. Not a dry stout, but leans that direction.

Nice attractive deep cola brown pour with a thick, smooth tight bubbled head. The nose is rich with coffee and chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is quite the same, and quite enjoyable. Very smooth and clean dry finish.

Nice dark brown/black pour with a cream colored head. Earthy roast malt aromas. Tastes similarly with coffee and mocha tones. Solid medium body. Slight creaminess. Finish a little smokey with nice coffee and hop bitterness. Well balanced and drinkable. One of the best examples of the style I’ve had in a while.

Bottle at GABF 2008. Almost black - light brown head. Burned, licorice, berries, dryness, lactic, roasted, a straight porter, lovely.

On Tap. Not my favorite porter but hell not bad. POured dark with a tan head, very roasted, decent flavor and medium to full body.
