Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

On tap at KSBF ’08. Dark brown, nearly black with a tan head. Light smell of dark chocolate. Bitter chocolate dominates the flavor, a little dusty. Not bad.

Poured a dark brown with a small tan head. Nose was pretty choco-roasty, a little fruity. Taste is classic roasted malt with appropriate hop bitterness as backup. Initially I didn’t notice, but this one has quite a carbonation issue---a bit too much. The hops never quite make a statement in this...a bit too sweet in the end. .

Pours a three finger beige head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Black as midnight, no highlights. Light-medium carbonation and heavy bodied. Coffee nose. Flavor is sweet roasted coffee/chocolate with almost burnt coffee finish, nice porter. $5.25 for a 22oz bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma.

22 oz. bottle in trade from Snojerk321-thanks! Served in pint glass- poured non transparent when held to light black, low carbonation with tiny bubbles, tan ring around the glass for a head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, darkened caramel, and roasted malt. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt has a smoke quality to it which makes it just that much more enjoyable, some cream in the middle, finish is bitter and slowly fades away. Nice, very nice.

Pours black with a good tan head. Aroma is pretty mild but I smell some roasted malt and a light sweetness. Flavor is a nice combination of roasted malt with some dark chocolate. I don’t detect much in terms of hops. The mouthfeel is outstanding. It’s just creamy and velvety and rolls around your tongue. Aftertaste is roasty and even a bit smokey. Very good.

From tap at the brewery. Pours black with a light orange glare and a lacing tan head. Roasted malt and coffeeish aroma. Roasted malty and light chocolate smoothness. Lingering roasted malty and light chocolate malty finish. light acidic fruity touch too.

Pours a pitch black color with a thin light brown head. Pleasant aroma of smoked, slightly roasted malt and chocolate. Good flavor of smokey, roasty malt with chocolate and dryness. The body is light with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. This is a very well made porter.
