Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

650ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours an opaque motor-oil black with a tan head that slowly recedes to 1/4 inch. Aroma was on the light side with black licorice, coffee, and something cinnamon-like. The flavor was earthy, with coffee chocolate, burnt toast and some dirt. The mouthfeel was full, creamy and satisfying with a slightly pasty after-taste. Finish was long and smooth with a bit of bittersweet chocolate. Overall: this is one of the best porters I can remember drinking recently. Recommended.

Huge thanks to Fordest for this delicious bomber
Black pour, medium sized tan nicely lasting head. Smell is rich, highly and well roasted without smelling burnt. Taste is rich, nice body, coffee, rich dark roast. Damn good porter. Perfect balance of sweet/bitter/roastiness, leaving a lasting pleasant roast finish. Hard to beat this porter in my opinion, and well worth getting. This really, really hit the spot.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with strong notes of chocolate as well as over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet roasted with notes of cocoa beans combined with a slight acidity from the hard roasted malt. Thanks David (Rastacouere) for dragging this to Denmark.

Bottle from WeeHeavySD. Big coffee and smoky roast aroma. A bit of a spongy bite in the flavor is the only real flaw in this beer, and makes it slightly tough to drink.

Blackish pour, small tan head, some lacing, solid retention. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roast, caramel, etc... focuses mostly on coffee that’s not overly roasted. Medium bodied, fairly smooth, light sweetness. Solid porter.

Ah, Ballast Point. Forever in the shadow of San Diego’s king micro brewer Stone... I THINK NOT. This is a phenomenal brewery, and the Black Marlin Porter does not disappoint. Drank this under the stars at the Hotel Del Coronado on a balcony overlooking the gorgeous Pacific Ocean and loved every last drop. Also on hand were a Stone Smoked Porter and Stone Russian Imperial, both lovely as well. But Black Marlin held its ground with these kingpins all night long. And when all was said and done, this baby was the biggest catch of the day.

Courtesy The_Epeeist. Black/brown, brown edges. Small grayish tan head. Chocolate, fresh grains, light vanilla, roast, light coffee, and subtle ash. Medium body is just smoother than balanced. Solid porter.

Another $2.99 bomber from Bottle Barn! Nose of chocolate with some coffee and sweetness; clear dark brown with a medium beige head; flavor is chocolate and brown sugar with a tiny bit of background hop bitterness. Pretty decent porter but slightly thin body.
