Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

Bottle. Deep brown color with a medium head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and a bit of grassy/dusty hops. Nice sweet and bitter balance, with just a bit of American hops. Medium body. Dusty texture. Very nice.

The body is nearly black and the modest tan head lasts none too long. The aroma is lightly roasted malt, dark milk chocolate, and a splash of coffee. The flavor begins on a moderately sweet roasted malt note, but midway through it’s joined by a distracting lactic sourness. Nice beginning; poor finish.

Bomber poured a translucent brownish black with a minimal brown head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and a hint of licorice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee, light vanilla and a hint of licorice with a smooth lingering moderatly bitter finish. A very tasty Porter!

Tried at the brewery. Pours thick with creamy head that dies to a small-bubble ring around the glass. Dark black color. Flavor was too roasty and too fresh...a little hard to drink. The aroma had this roasted grain flavor, which is OK, but too overpowering in the taste. Needs a lot of aging, but at 5.5%, I’m a little uncomfortable. My least favorite of the beers I’ve tried (Favorite is Dorado...Mmmm).

On tap. Pours black with a sizable creamy light brown head. Roasty aroma with sweet notes. Flavor is full of choclate roast, cofee and nuts. the body is fairly light and this goes down really smooth, a tasty, sessionable porter

22 oz. bottle. Pours dark and seems alittle watery. Aroma of sweet malt and caramel. Taste of muck the same. All in all not what I expected from the makers of my second favorite beer

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Looks pitch black with a small, creamy, light brown head, but it’s clear mahogany when held up to bright light. Good retention. The aroma is chock full of rich, wonderful notes of caramel, cola, maple syrup, milk chocolate, toasted pistachios, roasted cashews and freshly ground coffee. Forthright chocolaty flavor with bold, dark roasted malts, good bitterness and a touch of residual sweetness. Full-bodied and fatty with medium carbonation. Hearty, bitter-sweet finish. This beer caught me by complete surprise and just blew me away! So very underrated. I love it!
