Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

Inky black, utter opacity, underneath a big slab of rocky cocoa brown foam. Lookin’ good. Soft and sweet and the nose, chocolate, with bitter espresso hints, as well. Nutty, creamy, nice. Same deliciousness transported onto the tongue. Starts lightly hoppy and bitter, rolls out smooth, with lush chocolate malt. Smooth. Tasty. Addictive. Feels just lovely in the mouth. Medium to full-bodied, with a long, sweet finish. Hops never leave, though, and just enough edge to every sip and gulp. This is seriously good stuff. Great drinking, great taste, ...they’d have a hard time hanging on to it if I were in town! Much thanks to Buckeyenation!

22. Thanks, Foolish_Mortal! Deep opaque black with a thick, moussy pile of head and thin sheets of lace here and there on the way down. Enormous chocolatey nose. Dessert-like. Big, almost fizzy carb by porter standards, medium body, rich, forward flavors of chocolate and light roast. Creamy and delicious. Wonderful stuff!

Bottle. Thanks to Kramer17801 for sending me this. Pours a dark black body with ncie head. Aroma is pleasant - chocolate, roastiness. Flavor is bitter, light chocolate, roast, and decent carbonation. This one was pretty good. I drank it down way too fast.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, cocoa), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, flowers), with notes of chalk and minerals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. A bit too chalky and cocoa powdery in the nose, but otherwise a nice quaffing porter.

Pours a very dark brown color with a khaki head. Nice mild cocoa and coffee aromas, some roast. A bit thin on the palate. Taste is smooth, with some roast in the middle and a slight bitter cocoa finish. Good porter, kind of low-key - could be thicker and roastier.

Tasted at Ballast Point. Dark brown with creamy tan head. Raint roasty aroma. Good roasty taste with a bitter chocolate finish.

Dark Brown Color with Sandy Skin. Nice Dark Malts and Subtle but Assertive Roast Notes on the Nose. Medium Mouthfeel...Almost a Creamy Quality to it...Chocolate, Dark Roasts..Nice Balance of Malts and Balanced Overall With a Nice Hop Profile in the Aftertaste...Overall Bitter and Dry..but Still Balanced by a Sweet Malt Foundation. Nice Simple, Well Made Porter.

22 oz bomber. Pours black with dark brown hues. Nice creamy brown two finger head with excellent lacing. Nice nose: roasted malt, coffee but a tad boozy. Decent carbonation. Creamy. Nice flavor profile: dry malt, a hint of hops, some dry chocolate and coffee notes. Finishes dry. Decent porter.
