Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

Pours a very dark brown color with a khaki head. Nice mild cocoa and coffee aromas, some roast. A bit thin on the palate. Taste is smooth, with some roast in the middle and a slight bitter cocoa finish. Good porter, kind of low-key - could be thicker and roastier.

Dark Brown Color with Sandy Skin. Nice Dark Malts and Subtle but Assertive Roast Notes on the Nose. Medium Mouthfeel...Almost a Creamy Quality to it...Chocolate, Dark Roasts..Nice Balance of Malts and Balanced Overall With a Nice Hop Profile in the Aftertaste...Overall Bitter and Dry..but Still Balanced by a Sweet Malt Foundation. Nice Simple, Well Made Porter.

22 oz bomber. Pours black with dark brown hues. Nice creamy brown two finger head with excellent lacing. Nice nose: roasted malt, coffee but a tad boozy. Decent carbonation. Creamy. Nice flavor profile: dry malt, a hint of hops, some dry chocolate and coffee notes. Finishes dry. Decent porter.

Bottled. Beer is very dark brown with a small, frothy, tan head that rapidy and mostly diminishes.
The aroma is malty with moderate notes of roasted grain, toasted nut, coffee, light note of molasses; Hoppy with light-to-moderate notes of resin/pine, grapefruit, light grassy alfalfa note; Yeasty with a moderate note of basement, light note of dough; Trace note of soil.
The flavor is light-to-moderatey sweet, lightly acidic with a long, lightly sweet, trace bitter finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery-velvety and the carbonation is lively.

22 Oz- Yeah. Liked this a lot. Super coffee and roasted flavor. Jet black, in appearance. Smooth, and substantial. Yum. Wife also loved this, and is a big porter fan.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a brief tan head. Cocoa and coffee with a light smokiness. Mild bitterness with an underlying sweetness. Thin molasses and licorice. Hoppy drying in the end.

Bottle at Papsoe pre-KO tasting. Dark red/brown colour. Plenty of roasty malt notes here but I also picked up some woody, slightly oxidised notes, drifting towards a touch of liquorice, maybe even soy sauce, that I found rather distracting. Not fatally so, but I just expected something a bit more vibrant.
