Sep 9, 2006 22 oz. bomber. Nice looking, nearly opaque brew with a light brown foamy head that dissapates slowly. Looks and feels relatively thick. Sweet aroma of chocolate syrup and some brown sugar. Good roasty notes also. Well done.

Aug 4, 2006 Bottled. The body on this was very black with a light brown colored head. The aroma was coffee with chocoalte. There was also a sweet note of pancakes with some syrup. The taste was coffee with some burnt bread crust. There was also a bit of dandelions. Strange and ok for a porter. I would like a bit less of the burnt roasted taste and something to blance it out.

Aug 3, 2006 22-oz. bottle from Naven. Pours near opaque with a medium tan foamy head that goes rocky after a bit, with spotty lacing. Aroma is chocolate dark roasted malt (grain, meal), yeast (leather), flowers and fruit. Medium bitterness and acidic hoppy, chocolate and dark caramel malt, trace yeast. Dark bodied and fizzy-dry palate.

Jul 29, 2006 On tap at Ballast Point. This black ale poured with a medium tan head. It is massivelyh malted, tasting more like a chocolate stout than a porter. It is well-hopped, exhibiting a nice floral aroma and a hop flavor that is evident, but does not overwhelm the malt. A very enjoyable quaff.

Jul 26, 2006 22oz, no date. Pours a deep garnet with a moderate dark beige head. Aroma is of big chocolate and pine, roasted malts, some coffee and a hint of nuts. The taste is sweet in the very beginning, but then is bitter until the roasted malt finish. Creamy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. An above average porter.

Jul 14, 2006 This porter pours a deep black color with nice red tinges from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with strong long lasting lacing. Aroma is semi-sweet dark chocolate, some roast malts, touch of vanilla and floral hops. A medium bodied porter. Malts are semi-sweet chocolate and roasty malts. Hops are earthy and floral. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Crisp hops tend to balance the roasty malts. Nice crisp dry finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Jun 26, 2006 22oz bottle poured a deep, dark brown with a nice foamy, tan head. Good roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and some coffee. Flavor was very chewy and creamy. Lots of roasted malt and chocolate with a great mouthfeel. One of my fav Ballast Point brews, these guys know what their doing!

Jun 15, 2006 Bought this 22oz bottle at the Whole Foods in La Jolla, CA. Pours a deep dark color with a lacing tan head. Roasted chocolate aroma, with a hint of coffee. Goes down smooth. Rich chocolate taste. Roasted finish. A decent porter!
