Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

22 oz bomber from Jonathon Ron in Brielle. Pours a deep dark body with a full light beige head that was just way too bubbly to really pull me into this one. Aroma is weak with notes of milk chocolate and freeze dried coffee but there was also an original burst of orange citrus notes that faded before I finished the bottle. Flavor is a little stronger but still not overpowering with notes of darker chocolate, coffe grounds and perhaps a slim touch of citrus hops as well. Body on this one is fuller bodied and suprisingly smoother then I was expecting which helped bump up the overall rating on this one. For $2.75 a bomber I would buy this one again.

Bomber. Very dark brown, near black with a big, sand colored head. This is clearly going for an American take on porter with hops playing a major role in the flavor and aroma. Starts off with some dark chocolate and hits with a roasty bitterness. Good, though not a super clean finish making it a little hard to drink a lot of.

Bomber...dark brown to black body with a brown sugar colored head...bitter coffee aroma with some caramel...the lacing kind of sticks...its not dramatic, it just falls...thin body....I taste coffee, in a bitter form... a lot less flavor than I though it would be...a simple porter coffee + caramel....with a very mild bitter chocolate...its a shame it smells better than it tastes... in a few sips the finish is sour and metallic...good one timer, but wouldn’t seek it out...

0.65 l bottle, thanks Timo A! Dark reddish brown color with creamy tan head. Roasty, coffeish, leathery, nutty and raisiny aroma. Roasty coffee-chocolate flavor with hint of charcola. Roasty and nutty finish. Soft palate. Nice nutty porter.

(Rating #2426)

Bomber, thanks weeheavysd! Pours incredibly dark brown with garnet highlights and a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and smoke. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation. Sweet chocolate and coffee taste with the hops making a guest appearance in the finish. Maybe a little too sweet, but not by much.

This poured a dark dark brown color with a light light tan head. Aroma was silky chocolate, some dry roastedness, and sweet malts as well. Flavor was very sweet, not much roastieness at all. This was a classic portern, just which it was a little less one dimentional

Bottled (@Beer Hunters). Dark ruby red color, firm creamy espresso head. Nose is not very strong, but it has sweet milk chocolate and toasted malts. Medium-bodied. Lots of ash in the toasted flavor, also sweet milky notes. Coffee in the aftertaste. Although this is "porter" by name, this is closer to sweet stouts. Quite nice.
