Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

Smokey and good porter, not so chocolaty as suggested in the description. A bit thin on the second taste and finish. Just not a whole lot here, but still drinkable.

22 oz. bottle from City Beverage in Winston-Salem, NC. Cola-like pour with a creamy off-white head. Roasted malt aroma, smoke, dark chocolate, and light citrus hops. Smoky malt flavor upfront that fades into delicious espresso and creamy chocolate with a slightly bitter hop finish. Overall this beer is light and rather sessionable. A good solid porter.

Bottle ( 22oz ). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, via trade with ughsmash. This bottle IS a little old ... maybe a lot old. Here goes. Deep ruby-black, smallish frothy tan head. Dry, leafy aroma, some nutshell and coffee - fairly mild, but not bad. Taste - coffee, mild herbal bitterness, faint alcohol - simple, undemanding. Slightly watery and still mouthfeel, dry, quick-finishing, with a dry herbal/floral and roast bitter linger. Pretty solid for a bottle from early 2007!!

Thanks to HogTownHarry for sharing this with Blankboy and I. Appearance: Pretty dark brown/red with a small tan head. Aroma: Spicy, leather, coffee, chocolate, somewhat ’dusty’ but good. Flavour: Mild chocolate, good amount of spice and hops, decent mouthfeel, light cream and a nice coffee finish. Decent.

Bottle.
Pours a deep, rich black with an aroma of light chocolate brownie batter, roasted malt, and a touch of cherry cake iciing. Flavor is a brownie batter powder, dark malt, dark fruit, and a touch of coffee. Nice, chewy mouthfeel. Not bad at all.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. It pours a dark brown with a half inch beige head. The flavor starts with chocolate, roasted malt, and a hint of caramel. The finish has some light roasted coffee. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Pours a dark brown, with a creamy, well-sustained off-white head - slightly yeasty nose, with notes of dry cocoa, roasted malts, light anise - semi-dry, with a creamy body that gradually develops a chalky texture - flavors of bittersweet chocolate, mild licorice, strong roasty flavors - develops a fairly strong bitterness for the style in the finish, but it works well with the more dry qualities of the beer - lingering tobacco notes, a touch of ash - a pretty decent porter.

Draft at Hulmeville Inn. Black pour with a slight head. Flavor very limited just some smoked malt, could use more depth. Far from the best from BP.

Pours a deep brown almost black with a smaller bubbly tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, tart cherries, roasted malt and toasted nuts. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, tart cherries, some residual hop flavor and bitterness.
